I ran into a couple issues putting new sights on my Rossi 92 .454. The factory front sight is too short and I don't like how the rear sight covers the target. I ordered a ghost ring rear and red dot front form Steve's Guns. The new front sight hit the barrel band. I removed the band to check fit and it slid right through the dovetail (the barrel dovetail is not bent). I replaced the band and removed the required material from the sight. Now I need to shim and install the sight. I read a suggestion on another site to use a wedge from a beer can as a shim (it's a hunting rifle). I have a few of those around wink.

I would appreciate some advice on this process, as well as what product(s) to use for protecting the exposed metal on the sight where I filed off material.

One more question. The ghost ring rear sight is so stiff that I am unable to make elevation adjustments. Can I just put it in a vise and bend it a bit to reduce the pressure? suggestions welcome here too.

Thank you.

Dan
