I m a stomach sleeper and looking to upgrade and lighten load, current bag is 5lbs, I am considering the Alder 25 degree bag and 15 degree Ponderosa by Western Mountaineering. I understand WM is first quality but would like input from anyone who is using a bag that doesnt have a hood. I am wondering how much efficiency the bags lose without the hood. I also like the idea of semi-rectangle I have a 48 inch chest and would like a bit more room. Alder is 62 in and Ponderosa is 67 in at the shoulder. Im a warm sleeper and think 25 would be plenty but a little extra room in Ponderosa would be nice. Thanks for your input.

I just got the sycamore which is the hooded alder i believe. I'm mostly a side or stomach sleeper. I'm really liking the semi-rectangular shape but I'm not a big guy so i have room to roam in most bags.

I'm a stomach sleeper that lives in a WM Badger for a 6'6" guy (I'd be 6'2" if my legs fit my torso) I use it with a Exped Downmat once it turns September, and I've never been cold as long as its above 35 degrees in the tent.

One thing I like about WM bags is that they're not cross baffled. If its going to be cold, and your mats up to it, you can try and shake as much insulation to the uphill side of the bag as possible.

If you want to go hoodless and push it a little colder I'd use a balaclava and/or something like the Jacks R Better down hood.

I have 2 hoodless bags from Western Mountaineering, one is the Alder the other names escapes me but its a 40 degree one.

Anyways, I got the hoodless so my wife and I can zip them together and neither of us have a hood in our face. They work great and the 25 degree/40 degree bag combo lets us be comfy down into the low 20s even with all that extra space in the bag from zipping two together.

I am 5'9 160 pounds and have used the Alder solo as well. They are very roomy and I just cinch up the bag around my neck and wear and fleece hat and I have taken the 25 degree alder down to low 20s as well like this. Hope that helps

You keep zipping bags together and there's just bound to be some little Lukes running around laugh

Ouch.

I think the normal delay is about 9 months.

LISTEN to this man. Better yet, sew omni tape (JRB will give you some with sewing directions when you buy their hood) to the collar of a down vest and attatch the hood to the vest.

Ray Jardine and his wife have been sleeping under two person quilts they've made for a couple of decades at least.
