What is the attraction of the 99 F for you folks? Is it the light weight of the gun? The look? The availability in .308? or what? I am a fan of the older model EG's and G's (pre war). To me they were a better quality firearm. But you guys really seem to like the F's. What are your reason(s)? Which F's are best and why?

I have always been leary of the accuracy of these light weight barrels that heat up fast. What is your experience?

Thanks in advance for your input.

for me F does stand for favorite and yes the attraction is the lightweight , the look ,and especialy the way it handles. as far as accuracy my 243 F is one of the most accurate rifles that i own, also prefer the older F model , pre 1960 with the safety on the lever.
I'm hooked on the pre-wars too...although a lot of these guys are from my tribe...
The .308 seems awfully modern to me...

f is featherweight, duh! 2" less bbl. generally more desirable for us pygmy's in the woods. I like utica carbines, hard rubber butt ones, any that are pretty.
Most of these guys like F's because they're learning
from our lectures.

My 2 Fs in 300 are the most accurate rifles I own, and there are 700 remingtons and winchesters in there. They are light ,smooth, fast handling, beautiful, rare, and THEE ultimate hunting weapon. Yes, the thin barrel will heat up, but how many shots do you need? My Fs shoot less than .5 inch for three shots, and less than 1 inch for 5. Mark.

Oh , I forgot to mention that the only other gun that might be more accurate is my model R in 300

I like the look of the take down F and the handling. It seems a bit more graceful than my Saddle Ring Carbine or model R. Ohhh and I prefer prewar as well.
And why would you want a 308 when you could have a 250?
