.270 ruger or 30-06 interarms for the more open country, 300 savage 99 or 30-30 marlin for the thick stuff
Got a ton of shooting inbetween now and then to make up my mind!

Likely a moot point for me, about as likely to Elk Hunt as to winning the lottery, and I don't buy Lottery Tickets but there is a .300 Weatherby and a Mod 71 .348 Win. in the safe just in case.
Also a Ruger Super Redhawk .480 Ruger in case I really put the sneak on one. Kevin
I have "CDO". It is just like "OCD" except the letters are in alphabetical order LIKE THEY SHOULD BE!

Same for me...Archery in September. The new to me 280 AI that Lee built will probably get first nod. Its spitting out the 160gr Partitions and Accubonds under .5 MOA and hasnt been bloodied yet. 300 WSM Win Ex Weather will go as the back up Im sure, its rolling out the 180 Partitions just as well.
Its that time of the year, working on the out of state apps, and studying the units and odds. Sept cant get here fast enough!

If I can get the time later this year or the next, I`ll use my 338-378 Accumark w/4.5-14x40 VX3.
The new Berger 300 gr VLD hunting hybrids should be available by then. I`ll try those at around 2800-2850 fps MV.

Same as in years past 338 win mag and a 300 win mag as a back up or vice versa.
Tried all the newbies WSMs RUMs RSAUM and some Weatherbys, These 2 seem to work best for my type of hunting

Depends on the weather when I get up in the morning to go.

Will take both my X-Bolt 300 win mag and Ruger 358 Win and the area we hunt will determine the one I use on a given day.

350 Rem mag, 35 Whelen or 375 Ruger...depending on which direction I plan to go out of camp in the morning. Not to nit pick!! What distinction is there for you between the 350RM & 35 W? Guns themselves? Bullets used? ? ? Personal whim? I carry whatever gun I'm in the mood to hunt. Just curious, no criticism.

Too early to know, but it has been a while since I hunted elk with the 7mm RM that was my only big-game-legal bolt rifle for 20+ years.
It will likely be one of the following, with a second for backup:
.280 Rem - Ruger #1, 140g TTSX, AccuBond or North Fork 7mm RM - Ruger M77 tang safety with iron sights, wood/blue, 160g North Fork .30-06 Ruger M77 tang safety, wood/blue, 165g North Fork or 168g TTSX .30-06 Ruger MKII, stainless/synthetic (boat paddle), 165g North Fork or 168g TTSX .30-06 Remington M700, wood/blue, 165g North Fork or 168g TTSX .300 WM Ruger MKII, blue/synthetic (boat paddle), 180g North Fork or 180g MRX .338 WM Ruger MKII, stainless/synthetic (boat paddle), 225g AccuBond
All rifles have Burris Fullfiled II/Ballistic Plex scopes on them, in 3-9x or 4.5-14x.
I say "likely" because there is always a chance I'll find something I can't resist at a gun show...

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

I know its early but what will your go to rifle for this coming elk season ? My Encore pistol in .30/06. Got a deer with it last year and it is so addictive that I can't see me using anything else. I will be carrying it if I get a moose tag too.
