I was thinking of one of these until I learned that the recoil spring is proprietary and cannot be replaced by after market springs. Anyone have one yet?

Can't be exactly on point for you here, but I just made a similar choice on a 20 (wait for Gen 4 availability vs buy the Gen 3 SF). I prefer the feel of the Gen 4 in general and have one in a 19 and another in a 34 on the way. Given the critical nature of springs for the 10mm to run well and some of the Gen 4 spring issues to date, I decided to let someone else work out the bugs in the Gen 4 10mm spring assembly and went with the Gen 3 SF. Should be here within the week. Doubt I'll be disappointed but would have liked the Gen 4 texture better.

The springs may be proprietary (for now) but they work, so there's no need IMO to look elsewhere--------especially for the G21. They're cheap and available.
Again IMO, I'd rather have a Gen 3 that's a proven version, than the newer Gen 4. I think double-springing ALL Glock models for the sake of uniformity or whatever the motivation was dumb. The short models need 'em, and got 'em early on. The G22s beat themselves up because the gun wasn't designed around the .40SW, it was just a rechambered 9mm.
To put my money where my mouth is, I recently purchased a used Gen3 G21 for not much less than a new Gen 4 would be, specifically because the pre-gen 4 G21 is a proven platform and the bugs are worked out. It may have been worry for nothing, but I worry no more.
edited to add: I misread your concern on proprietary springs. They work on the shorter guns, and are supposed to extend the change intervals, but they cost at least 3 times what the standard springs do IIRC.

I think I am going to look for the SF it will be cheaper as well. Gen 3 SF is a known quantity as has been mentioned.

I have owned the G21, G21SF and just bought my G21 Gen4 and believe it feels the best yet...I wouldn't worry too much about the recoil spring as the bigs will be making their versions soon enough and if not, they usually don't cost much from GLOCK...I've not read of any issues witht eh recoil spring issues and the G21 Gen4s...good luck with your choice...

I was thinking of one of these until I learned that the recoil spring is proprietary and cannot be replaced by after market springs. Anyone have one yet? So are you planning on burning 5,000 rounds a week? If not, then I wouldn't worry about the recoil spring. Glock springs have never been difficult to obtain and the pistol isn't so finicky that an after-market solution is needed. Buy the model that fits you best. The 21 is big enough that the "sf" version is warranted for many folks.
