I didn't know the scout came in .54 i was torn between the scout and white mtn. carbine in 1990 when they came out. i went with the carbine. It's been a good deer killer.

The T/C Scout RIFLE was made in '95, '96, & '97 (see catalogs #22, #23, & #24). All Scouts (except pistols) made in '96 & '97 had the QLA feature so that helps date 'em. I have a .54Cal RIFLE in walnut with the QLA. I've seen a few Scout RIFLES, in walnut, in .50Cal, but the one I own is the only one I've ever seen in .54Cal. I've seen lots of carbines in .50Cal & .54Cal. I'm pretty sure the gun DiamondJim sold, in the GunBroker ad referred to above, is a Carbine with a Rifle barrel (if it had a 24" barrel) from a composite stocked RIFLE which had round barrel. The carbines had a 21" barrel. The Rifles in walnut had a 24" barrel that stepped from octagon to round, brass forearm cap, and curved brass buttplate. Arguably the best looking muzzleloader ever made. The rifles in composite also had a 24" barrel (round) but had a recoil pad and a blued barrel band at the front of the forearm.
To make things more confusing T/C offered some non-cataloged, special order runs of Scout Rifles with full octagon barrels (Grey Scout, Texas Scout, etc.). These are the rarest Scouts. I've only seen one but have heard of a couple more. I know of a Texas Scout in .54CAL but can't get my hands on it.

It was a neat little rifle. Easy to carry and a blast to shoot. Figuratively and literally. cool
