Hey guys, quick question. Did Savage ever make the 1920 with a detatchable magazine? I ran across one in 250-3000 today, and the guy that has it says that he had one in .300 Savage with the same detatchable magazine a few months back. He just figured it had been modified until he saw this one. Now he's starting to wonder if they were made with detatchable magazine. I know next to nothing about the 1920's, so thought I'd better ask here. Thanks.

No 1920's with removable clips, but they did make the model 40 and 45 in 250-3000. You sure that's not what you saw?

I'll have to double check again today. I didn't actually pick it up, he just told me it was a Model 1920. I'll get back to you.

"He" was wrong, if it is a bolt action rifle with a detachable magazine chambered in either 250-3000 or 300 Sav it has to be a Super Sporter, either a Model 40 or a Model 45.

Was talking to a guy the other day who owns a 1920 set with a 410 barrel for it. An older fellow that used to work for Savage in Utica and is long gone gave him this gun years ago before his death. The owner doesn't know how to email me pics but he asked for my address and is going to msnail mail me some. Should be interesting. Apparently the barrel detaches and then it has another bolt as well for the 410 barrel.

Wow! That is a great document Mr. Olgrouser! How does a guy get such an interesting document Mr. Olgrouser? I am going to enjoy this board as I am intrigued already! Thank you Mr. Olgrouser.

I'm not very familiar at all with the bolt action Savages, but I looked this one with detatchable mag over yesterday and didn't find a model number, which I guess didn't surprise me. It had to be a Model 40. I did notice on the barrel dates that the last one was 1919, I believe, so I suppose they used the same barrels as the Model 1920's. It also was a 4 digit serial number.

By the way, I used to have a M40 in .250. It was no collector's gem but I still wish I had it back. Anyone else notice that this is not a sickness that improves with time?
