Has anyone here had experience with the Swarovski 8X30 Rangefinder? I'm curious as to whether the optical quality is as good as the SLC 8X30s, i.e., is the rangefinder an SLC 8X30 monocular with ranging capacity?

Yes, I have both, the Swarovski rangefinder and the SLC binoculars. I feel the optic quality is virtually identical.
The optic quality is as good or better than ANY rangefinder I have looked through. And the rangefinding capability is simply outstanding. I have ranged antelope at 1500 yards with no problem. Heck, other rangefinders I owned anything over 400 yards was out of the question.
To be sure, Swarovski optics are expensive, but I feel they are worth it. I looked at LOTS of stuff at the Shot Show the last few years and nothing is any better, in my opinion.

I have one. Very nice glass. Some folks complain about the size or how quick (slow) it is. It is too nice to complain about. I have an old Nikon Monarch that I use for bowhunting, but the Swarovski stays in the pack during rifle season. I picked up one of these cases for it, and it's the best 7 bucks you can spend on a rangefinder case. I think these have long been discontinued from Cabelas. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cabelas-Ran..._DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cece38071look around for a good deal on a used one. That is how I bought mine.

Ditto whats been said above. Yes, the Cabela's neoprene case for specific RF's has been discontinued. Luckily I have one on the RF and a spare! Since I'm blind in one eye, I bought this unit to serve as both RF & nice 8 binoc!!!!

The only thing I didn't like about my Swaro LRF was the large aiming circle/reticle. It covers a large area when ranging, so you can get some false readings sometimes. I just ranged it 2-3 times to be sure.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

I really don't find that to be a problem. Just put your target within the circle. Yes, that seems to be a common complaint along with the size. I have no issues with the unit at all.

Hello Sakoluvr,
Thanks for the heads-up. I've been looking for a case for my RF.

Does anybody know if the "first 2 digits of the S/N plus 30 equals year of manufacture" is valid for the laser range finder like it is for the Swaro binos?
Thanks!
