I am looking for new bottom metal for my Winchester M70 Stainless Classic Featherweight. I am going to put it into a McMillan Edge stock and I want to swap out the Stainless multi-piece bottom metal for an aluminum one piece bottom with floor plate. I would just buy it from Pacific Tool&Gauge, but their aluminum units are bare aluminum. I am assuming that I can buy it finished (stainless silver color) from Winchester. Has anyone here bought such parts from Winchester and how hard is it to deal with them? Thanks, RJ

Well, Here is my experience so far of dealing with Winchester Parts department. I went on their website where it said to look up the parts I wanted in their online parts book and fill out their parts order. Simple enough. I did that and faxed in the order as instructed to. A couple of days later I got a call from them and the rep told me all of the part numbers in the online book are no longer valid. But she said that I could tell them what I wanted and they could look up the numbers, check stock and send me the parts. I ordered a one piece trigger guard assembly for my short action M70. It arrived today. The part they sent was for a LONG ACTION rifle. I am pi$$ed. I told the parts rep, SHORT ACTION 3 times. The last time I said, "Now make sure that part is for a SHORT ACTION". Unbelieveable. When I ask the question in my original post of this thread, that is why I asked. Now I have to go through the hassle of sending this part back and TRYING to get them to send the right part.

Is the one they sent you blue or stainless? You can PM me what it cost you. I need a blue one and might be just as easy to ship it to me instead of back to them.
Sorry it didn't work

It is stainless (actually powder coated aluminum). It was $54 shipped. I will call them today and try to straighten this mess out.

Funny, I ordered the 3 hex-head action screws for M70,
Wrong stuff shows up...
Make sure they refund the shipping, they did on mine...

JMR40, I have already spoke with them and they are supposed to send a call tag to send it back. If I don't have that call tag in two days, I will PM you. They are also supposed to send the correct one to me. I also ordered the floor plate, $80, Yikes! They are proud of that part. I could use the floor plate off of my original 2 piece bottom metal, but it would expose the back two corners of the mag well. By God, I want this thing to look good if I am putting this kind of money into a stock. This is Winchesters last chance to get it right. If they screw it up again, I suppose I'll use my original heavy metal.

Never mind.
I have an older stainless Classic that I put into an Edge stock that I ran across used. The stock is made for 2 piece bottom metal. I made a spacer and it works just fine. Just not as professional looking. I've been meaning to call Winchester to inquire about buying the new 1 piece bottom metal and when I saw the price of $54 thought it was for the complete set.
Mine is a working rifle and I'm not as concerned about cosmetics as long as it shoots well, and it does.
