Hello ...hope im on the right page/forum
I have a savage 99 ss# 582xxx. Made in 1951 .,its a .250-3000 caliber.
wanting to use for varmits and deer hunting.


It is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Factory drilled?
Will the williams reciever sight fit in the rear scope base holes?
Also? Im missing the rear factory sight.
Anyone know where to find one? Part number?
Its a real nice rifle. Exactly like my late uncles rifle that i just loved when i was a very young man.

If it's a model R then ya it's factory drilled but if it's an EG then it's aftermarket.

Yes the Williams will fit the rear scope block holes but make sure you get the right one for those holes. Williams makes one that fits the tang sight holes as well.

Finding a rear original factory sight will set you back about $50 on Ebay as of late.

has a 24 inch barrel and schnable forend. Solid frame.
Pistol grip Rear stock.no monte carlo. Steel butt pad.

Schnable forearm at that serial range makes it a Savage 99EG. Almost surely aftermarket d&t, but if you can see a Savage 99 stamp to the side by the front base mount there's a chance it was factory d&t. A few slipped out that way.

It has a 1 in 14" twist and will probably shoot factory 100gr ammunition fine. But if you reload you might want to make a point of getting shorter bullets for it to maximuze your accuracy. I like the 87gr Speer Hot Core myself, shoots very well with H4895 in most of my 250's and worked beautifully on antelope. Haven't managed a shot at a whitetail yet, but maybe this year. Lots of good choices of 75gr and similar bullets for varmint.

The boss code? Slight C with a very small B in it. Can only see about half of the C... they didnt strike it very hard?

The C is probably part of a lightly struck oval that should surround the LBC completely. The B means it was made in 1950, like mine.

Hopefully yours has better rings on it than mine does at the moment. Bubba got to mine before I bought it.

Oh-oh, not sure what an AR15 will run you in the U.S. but up here a cheap one will take $1000 out of your pocket.

An EG isn't worth $1000+.

All mine has is weaver bases. No scope.

Besides? I am one of those who think the savage 99 looks its best with a peep sight.
but .. having said that ..im also glad its drilled and tapped...my eyes are much older these days.
I do have a savage american classic model 14 .250 caliber.

For some silly reason.im crazy about the. 250 caliber. And 99's.
Still have the. 308F that my brother gave me.
But im getting so old and creaky. I prefer the recoil of the. 250.

Oh im not really sure. It was a parts built AR.
Nothing hi-tech.. standard A2 with del-tonbarrel. 20 incher.
Probly had 400 to 500 $ in it.
had built 10 or 12 of them. Used up the rest of my parts.
Couldn't pass up this. 250
Have wanted one for 40 years.

If you had $400-$500 into the AR you did just fine. EG's in 250 go for a bit more than that normally if in good shape.

You did good then with it being in 250.

peabody, I have a 52' EG with the Williams FP rear sight on it.

When you talk with Williams, ask them about their "Twilight" aperatures for the FP. These have a brass insert for a little easier sighting. The stock aperature has a non-twilight 0.092" sight hole. I also have their twilight 0.05" (good at the range) and 0.125" (good for hunting) aperatures.

Peabody - that rifle came with the sight already on it, no visible markings other than "Williams" so I can't help you there. Fits an EG real nice, no need to cut the stock.

Keystone ... ha. That was my very next question. About will it clear the stock.
