I've got a 454 encore pistol setup that came with a Burris 2-7 scope when I bought it. I sold the scope with the idea of moving to some kind of red dot system - or really just something more open.

Well, nobody seems very confident that one will hold up to the 454's recoil, so I'm asking your advice. What are my best options? My eyes aren't what they used to be, so I could use the magnification of a 2-7 or 3-12, but its sure not very intuitive to find game in the scope when its not at rest.

Anyone have good luck with a particular setup that they could share with me?

Thanks, Q

My dad put an Aimpoint on his Freedom Arms .454 and it did not last long. Although this was four years ago and technology has gotten better with the red dot scopes. I have a Contender in 45-70 and it has been hard on scopes. My personal choice is a Leupold straight power either 2x or 4x. I have both and they have worked great on the 45-70. I hunt in thick timber so I like the 2x over the 4x.

I had a holosight on my Taurus 454. It was an older style one and held up fine. Probably put 400 rounds through it. I have holosights on a 460 Rowland, a 460 Smith, a 500 Smith, and a 50 Beowulf on an AR frame. No problems with any of them. We also use them on slug guns and .22's. My boy took his first deer with one at 40-50 yards and made a perfect shot on it. I've shot lots of game with mine including a boar on the run at 90 yards. They are the best short range (less than 150 yards) sights out there in my opinion for the money!

We may know the time Ben Carson lied, but does anyone know the time Hillary Clinton told the truth?

I used a 1X Burris on my 45-70. You could shoot it with both eyes open.
