Question: woudn't you as a handloader, accuracy nut, prefer to absolutely control headspacing details, at the rim...blow the shoulder foward,.....and from that point, happily neck size your way into a long, and happy , and probably very accurate life of you and your cartridge cases?

I can't, for the life of me understand rimless cases, and single shot rifles, discussed in the same context.

This dilemma is interesting: Lets see.... I have Ruger #1s in .405 Win, #3s in .22 Hornet, .375 win, .45-70, & .30-40 Krag. All factory.

I also have customs in 9.3x74R, .356 Win, .32-40, and planning one in 7x65R. So therefore, I feel qualified to comment on this. (Also planning on one in .218 Bee and a highwall in 6.5 Krag improved or 25 Krag Imp.)
All of the above that are bottlenecked are set up to headspace on the case shoulder. So therefore rimmed or rimless is a moot point.

Now, I have never had an issue with a rimless case not extracting, nor do I know anyone that has.

Now be it known that I am long on tradition, so all my customs have been built with rimmed cases. Not because I think it necessary, I just like it that way. But it didn't take me long to discover that in the case of the .356, at least, it will take .358 ammo interchangeably without a hitch. It feeds and extracts just fine.

Now, I also own Ruger #1s in various rimless cases. Speaking only for myself, I just like to pick a sgl shot and go hunting. I guess the only reason I like the rimmed cases, is that I like to flirt with the obscure and uncommon chamberings. I am just thankful to have the options that I have. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

And to answer the above quote: As an accuracy nut, I prefer to headspace on the case shoulder rather than the rim. So thus, I consider it a non issue.
