I have a new M70 super grade in 300 WSM which will be used for moose this Fall. No suggestion on factory ammo since I don't use it.
Seems like more gun than necessary if the hunting is to be restricted to Pa.

Mine is a Winchester Classic with 24" barrel. Wouldn't want it any longer and it could probably be a touch shorter, but I won't change it. The biggest advantage of the 300 WSM is that it offers near 300 WM performnce in a smaller package. If you start going to longer, heavier barrels then I see no reason to not just go on up to the 300 WM.
I have the exact same rifle in 30-06 with a 22" barrel. The short action 300 WSM almost cancels out the weight and length of the longer barrel. Both guns weigh exactly the same and the 300 is only 1" longer overall.
I bought a few boxes of Federal ammo to try when I first bought the gun. The 150 gr bullets were very accurate and ran about 3300 fps. But I've been reloading since then. A set of dies were cheaper than 1 box of premium factory loads and I already had bullets, powder and primers.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

I have a M70 Extreme Weather with 24" barrel. I have a Leupie 3-9x40 matte sitting in a set of Talley Lightweights. Can't help you on the factory ammo - mine's never seen a box of factory and likely never will. 180 Partition/65.0 H4350/0.020 off L&G

I've got a Tikka T3 in .300 WSM. It wears a Prostaff right now but hopefully will be upgrading this summer. As far as factory ammo, I don't shoot much factory stuff, but when I bought it 4 or so years ago I remember it diggin' 180 Federal Fusions. I buy Fed. Blue box stuff when its on sale, but never shot groups with it. PS: 24" tube I believe... Not 100% sure though.

Mine is a Ruger M77 Mk II SS, Douglas #2 at 22" McMillan MkII classic at 13" Lop, timney trigger and a Leupold 6x36 with dotz. Its a fairly compact rifle and plesant to carry but has enough weight to shoot well from all positions.
It likes a number of 180 bullets over H4350 and positively loves the 168TTSX over the same. I haven't shot any factory ammo in it.

I shoot a Model 70 LH 300WSM and it is great. Leupold 3.5X10 scope w/B&C reticle. Have killed a couple elk with it, the farthest at 439yds. No factory loads here though. 64.5grs of 4350 and 180gr Noslers shoot 1.5" groups @200yds. Stay with a 24" tube...

Remington 700 XCR II with a leupold VX3 3.5-10x40 Matte......I shoot factory ammo in the rifle and so far with the limited loads I've tried she ain't picky, I have gotten My best groups out of Barnes Vortex 150 TTSX loads, this rifle will shot 1/2" 3 shot groups at 100 yds with this factory load, in fact all three factory loads I've tried in this rifle grouped in less than an inch....I think this one is a keeper........Hb

300WSM M70 Super Grade 300WSM M70 Coyote Light 300WSM A-Bolt II 325WSM BLR 7WSM M700
180 Accubonds are awesome but lately I've been using 150 Silvertips. I no longer buy factory ammo for my WSMs....

Kimber Montana .300WSM with a 4.5-14 VXIII with elevation turret (not ideal but was sitting idle on my shelf). It's never seen a hand load it didn't shoot sub 1" or so at 100yds but dotes on 150 partitions over W760

my friend is lookin to get his first mag and was wondering what to get and I recommend him to get a Remington XCR II in 300 WSM. and was wondering what rifle and barrel length you have in 300 WSM ? Also what scope do you have ? Also what factory ammo do you use ? I've got 2 and I love them both. The first one won me over so I had to buy a second.. . The first one is a FN PBR XP and it has a 24" fluted medium heavy barrel with target crown. It shoots pretty good with factory fodder and much better with handloads. Took my buck last year at 600 yards with it since it shoots well under 1 moa with a 5 shot group and sometimes 10 shots if I do my part. I'm actually running an el-cheapo Nikon buckmaster 4.5-14x40 with side focus and nikoplex reticle. The nice thing about this scope is it tracks amazingly well and the elevation turret is marked very well (each moa and hash marks for each revolution turned). With a 20 moa base and this scope I can get out to 1,000 pretty easy. As stick says, this is one polished turd.....: Typical 10 shot group: My new rifle (2008 limited edition fwt model 70 made in SC by FN): I have shot this a few times to dial the scope in (Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40 with CDS), but it needs a good bedding job and a good load worked up for it....My vote goes to the newer winchester model 70 probably just like the fwt pictured above or an Extreme Weather. Can't go wrong with either choice. Top it off with a VX3 3.5-10x40 or 4.5-14x40 and you're good to go.....
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Kimber Montana 300WSM with a VX 3.5x10. Shoots factory Federal 165 TSX and 180 Accubonds into 1 in groups. Elk hate the 165 TSX

Damn, I was going to say you were my hero until I saw the A-bolt! Nice list, man. I think the A-Bolt floor plate and mag combo is odd but they shoot well. Don't worry though, M70s are still my favorite...

I own two 300 WSM rifles. The first one I bought was a Remington 700XCR, Rocky Mountian Elk Foundation limited edition. The second is a Remington Model 700 Boone and Crockett limited edition.
Both are fitted with Leupold 4.5 x 14 40 LR scopes with the Boone and Crockett reticle.
The XCR has a 24 inch barrel while the B&C has a fluted 26 inch barrel. With my favorite load the 26 inch barrel only gains about 40 fps. I have never fired any factory ammo in either one.
