Paul, if you have a UPS Store near you, they sell boxes that are perfect for shipping a rifle. They call them a "golf club" box. Measures 6x6x48" and costs about $4.00. They also sell bulk packing peanuts. Bubble wrap the rifle and fill the rest of the container with packing peanuts and it's dang near bullet-proof. They also don't scream "gun".
Great thing you're doing and some kid is going to be thrilled!

Shoot me a PM when you get a kid so I can ship off the case.
Some kid is going to remember this forever, I know I do and will with my Ruger.

Just came across this thread. A wonderful gesture, and a pleasure to see so many step up to the plate wanting to be a part.
I'll donate a $100 Cabelas gift card.

Paul,
I sent you a PM with a candidate for your thoughts before I saw it was up to the Fire. Not a for sure and I have a call out to the mother but I will detail it here for all
My old work partner is a 34 y/o single mom of 3 boys, 10,12,15 iirc. She got laid off 1+ years ago and things are very tight for her and the boys.
I got them all out deer hunting 2 years ago and them boys are hooked. One boy has a .308 vanguard, one 30-30 m94 lever. The oldest uses a loaner from me or my dad.
I'm sure he would cherish it and care for it well and knowing this family I know it will be lovingly used and appreciated.

MA's young man has my vote as well!
Let's get this thing done!

This is a wonderful gesture guys and if it comes to the young man I nominated I will proctor its use and care. I assure it will go to a good home and given the care it needs.
I will dig through my ammo as I'm pretty sure I have some .308 stuff and no guns.
I will have the gun shipped to me and will keep it in my safe until I can find a gun locker for him to keep it secure.
ETA: I've talked to his mother and she's on board. Told her it was not a for sure but that I wanted to nominate him. She's is absolutely beside herself and was in tears that you guys would even consider her son for such a great gift.

Paul,
If you don't have a backpack yet, I've a Cabelas Scout Pack in great shape that could go to the cause.

Looks like he's the best candidate. I'm headed out to get a box. Once the scope, base and rings arrive I'll put it together and ship it up.

Jon gave me the sling and knife tonight. Thanks Jon!
I'm just happy that it'll go to a good home!
Maybe MallardAddict will be willing to facilitate the transfer of the other goodies to the kid as well? if y'all don't mind him acting as middle man?
