Purchased an Encore stainless/walnut 209X.50 muzzle loader a few years back. Decided recently that I had been without a .243 for too long but didn't want to put up $500 for a rifle & another 225 for a scope right now... so I picked up a stainless .24" .243 barrel & topped it with a burris 3X9 40mm for $400 I think i did real good on the package, considering the barrel was sticker priced 255, scope was 235 (silver matte) and the fore end was priced at $45.
I haven't shot it a whol lot yet but I dialed it in for some factory loads at 100 yds & I'm very impressed. I shot some 80 grain core lokts & some 100 grain JSP fed classics & the dang thing doesn't seem to shoot the 100 grain feds more that an inch lower than the 80 grain rem core lokts.
I think I'm going to like this little rig.

Sounds like a winner to me... My Encore collection started off with a 209x50 smokepole too, then I added a 24" barrel in .260 Rem & a 26" Heavy Stainless Barrel in .22-250.

I have a 24' blued .243 and am looking to trade for a 24' or 26' 308 or 209x50

I agree that it is addicting as I have added a 26" 22-250 and a 26" 25-06 ackley improved and am going to buy another as soon as I figure out what chambering I want to elk hunt with this next fall. It will probably be either a 30-06, 300 win mag, or a 338 win mag.
