A great read is "The Horn of the Hunter" by Robert Ruark.
One of the best hunting reads I have had.

Did you watch it on Netflix? There is another Gordan Eastman movie on there.

Rent Death Hunt with Charles Bronson, done up in Canada, good movie, great country and lots of gun porn! Then find the book "The Mad Trapper of Rat River"

Also Jeremiah Johnson and The Man-Eaters of Tsavo and Other East African Adventures, by J. H. Patterson, The Lions of Tsavo : Exploring the Legacy of Africa's Notorious Man-Eaters by Bruce D. Patterson, for light fun Hatari.

One Man's Wilderness, An Alaskan Odyssey
Dick Proenneke kept a journal during his time in Alaska. His good friend Sam Keith created this book from Dick Proenneke's journals and pictures. The odyssey begins on May 17, 1968 as Dick arrives in Alaska to start building his cabin. Read Dick's thoughts as he builds the cabin and lives through the winter with only the local wildlife for companionship. The next spring and summer he continues improving his cabin and investigating the local area.

Anything by Russell Annabell. He spent a lot of time in the Alaskan bush guiding sheep hunts and also in Mexico(dove hunting and such.)

A very entertaining writer.

Since you have Netflix, watch "The Edge" with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. It's a good one. Plus, you get to see Ele McPhereson strut around in a skimpy Indian outfit.

anything by Peter Capstick is a good read even if the veracity of some of it is in question.....Pondoro by John Taylor......"Ivory's Ghosts: The White Gold of History and the Fate of Elephants" is interesting and relatively cheap off of Amazon used as is "A Certain Curve of Horn:The Hundred-Year Quest for the Giant Sable Antelope of Angola" both by John Frederick Walker.....

"Hell West and Crooked" by Tom Cole is a great read about the "wild west" of the Australian outback.....real life Crocodile Dundee type guy and a good writer to boot.....everything from droving cattle to hide hunting for water buff and crocs...usually its around $1.50 on Amazon, well worth the price...

While the movie was just released last week, I think there is a book available on Amazon. It's called, The Hunger Games, and the movie was largely filmed in the county where I reside. Transylvania (Through the Woods) County is known as "The Land of Waterfalls", and has gobs of beautiful scenery. I plan to see this when it makes it's way to Netflix, and will buy the book probably today.

Lots of outdoor scenes in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and a story of martial survival. It pits young, highly trained warriors of both genders against each other in a winner-take-all skill of arms, stealth, and subsistence.

The movie will have to be seen at a theater right now, but the book has great reviews, and is available now.

Hope you heal quickly and get back into action soon.

Field Hand i know what you mean. i read 3 books yesterday, cleaned out the safe, sorted brass, ordered bullets, and picked up 2 new guns, my biggest problem is that the wife is home with me and she keeps hollering that i need to stay off the leg. anyone ever tried to hang a hammock in a garage so they could use the reloading press?

i've had both knees worked on . not total replacements (yet) too many years of karate. i was out of work a week each time. I was walking around the same day of surgery. i think i did 5 weeks of therapy.
I bounced back pretty quick because i pushed myself. the last surgery was a month before turkey season. I didn't try to run the ridges and it was hard to sit on the ground because i still couldn't quite bend my knee all the way. I'd say about 2 months i iwas fine. best advice i could give is try to keep it propped up and iced. i overdid my knee the first few days and it was pretty sore.
