I remember your 1911, Marty.

Give the Kahr 9mm a look too. P9 I think it is.

But that's the question. Not hunting or target or cowboy action pistols... but a gun you like specifically for defense.

I liked my Kimber 1911 in this regard, very controllable. Wasn't crazy about the weight or mag capacity. For concealed carry I like my Kahr's but they are relatively close-range weapons in my hands and also only hold 5-6 shots.

I have a 10mm Glock I really like and (here's the gist of the thread) I've got a powerful hankerin' for a Glock 23. Kind of seems like a perfect anti-human combat pistol. I like that I can bolt a light onto it easily and love the mag capacity.

Jeff, I have the 23 with a surefire x300 rail light. It's always on my night stand.

I hear that. Though in a long gun my little AR is the one pimped out for night duty etc.

I carry a Polish P64 always, either as a BUG or a primary.

I carry in a vest due to back issues. A sub compact XD40 in the winter and a Sig P250 sub compact in 9mm for summer. When I have a coat over the vest I sometimes carry a 3" GP-100.

I fully endorse the G23 as it is my duty weapon. Reliable and accurate, but no better than the XD. The only real reason I chose the XD over the G23 is that, being a cheap bastard, I shoot a lot of cast bullets.

I have a CZ 85 'Combat' 9MM plstol, steel frame, manual safety, adustable rear sight, adjustable trigger,& drop-free magazine. Reliable and accurate.

A Beretta 'Brigadier' 92FS, INOX, 9MM pistol. Also reliable and accurate.

A Fabrique Nationale Hi-Power 40 S&W pistol. My 1st choice if I were to choose 'one' for combat.

Also have a CZ VZ-61 'Skorpian' (classified as a handgun) SA version of the famous CZ submachine gun without folding wire stock. Includes one 10 rnd mag and two 20 rnd mags, chambered in 32 ACP. Probably not 'combat' effective.

All my 'combat' weapons stay at home ... whilst I only dream.

When I decided to answer the craving for a high cap, plastic, 9mm pistol, I tried a Glock. Heck, I tried a bunch of them. It just didn't fit my hand at all. I tried a S&W M&P and it was like shaking hands with an old friend. The 9mm M&P felt great but the hole in the end was just too small for me to take, so I got a M&P in 40S&W. I love it! I still like the 1911 but when I carry something, it is going to be the S&W M&P 40.

Limited exposure here, but I do like a 1911. Having said that I like the Jericho even more, although it is a lot more heavy, I find I shoot much better with it. Both are in 45, of course!

Good info. Thanks! A very valid reason to go with something other than Glock.

Glock 29 compact 10mm in the summer, a Glock 20 full size 10mm in cooler weather. As the old snake oil salesmen used to say "suitable for man or beast".

It works sometimes. grin

In town I tuck my shirt into my Milt Sparks VM-II. Wading through pee all day gets tiring.

I'm not much of a pistol guy but the one that I have used the most and carry most often is a Kimber crimson custom in 45 acp.
I'm not a great pistol shot but with practice I'm getting better.
The Kimber is easier for me to shoot well with them most other pistols I've tried.
