I found a late 1959 99F 250 with no rust, freckling, tang cracks, extra holes. Just has bluing loss at the carry point, muzzle and top of the barrel in a few spots. I think I could talk the guy down to $575 or so. Should I pull the trigger?

I have not, but the fellow is holding it for me. I knew it sounded like a good price. I think I will pick it up this evening or Monday.

This is a pre-mil we are talking about, in a very desirable caliber... I don't see how you can go wrong and I echo Lightfoot's thoughts.

TnBigBore....snap that up if all else is equal! I can say my pre-mil 99 F in .250 in similar shape (conservatively) is going to go out to market with a dramatically higher asking price than that great deal! I am pretty sure I will have NO problem selling it and it is not just some silly shot in the dark for the big payoff on my part. That said, GRAB IT...or give me the info. and I will! Nice find for a really good guy! You will enjoy the hell out of it!

1959 is premil, the 1 millionth 99 (well, the 99 with serial number 1 million) was made in 1960.

That's robbery! Don't buy it. PM me the address where it is located so I can go give this seller a good going over for trying to rob you.

Frankly I'm surprised TnBigBore is asking this question. He's been around long enough to know what things are asking/selling for. The post should have read, Look what I bought!!!!! OTOH, I think folks have .250itis. Don't get me wrong, I love the caliber. In my case all of my rifles are 1/14" twist so I'm exclusively shooting 87 grain bullets. Now this I love the pre-mil F thing is ok, but in all honesty I think the .243 Win in the pre-mil is a FAR better choice for the average person. That being said, I wouldn't pay any more for a .250 F than I did for this perfectly mint "F" in .243, and trust me it was WAY less than $800.00.

That's a pretty one, Steve. And I would have to agree; the F in .243 is a very desirable rig.

Thanks for the "support" guys. You are right Longbeard, I should already know to jump on something like that. Sometimes a guy just needs a little shove though.
The guy is holding the rifle for me, and I should be able to pick it up later this week. Guess I should start loading up some 87 grainers.

Looks like I won't need to load any 87 grainers after all. The guy sold it out from under me after agreeing to hold it. I guess that will teach me not to run around without six hundred dollars cash in my pockets on a Saturday.
