I am hestitant to start another this vs. that 375 H&H post but I felt too sleezy posting after an escort add...

Has anyone seen the Winchester Alaskan in 375 H&H? It is listed on the Winchester website as a SHOT show special. None were listed at Gallery of Guns link available on the website. The weight is listed as 9 lbs. I like the monte carlos stock. Different sights (I'd scope it anyways) and a longer barrel. Would this be a reasonable alternative to the Win Safari Express?

Haven't seen it, but I hope it's lighter.

I don't like the Express sights, anyway.

Longer barrel? The Express has a 24" bbl.

Alloy vs. Steel bottom metal is another difference. Still would look like a viable alternative to the safari express.

I was hoping it would be a little lighter than the safari express since the barrel contour was different. Plus I like the stock.

I saw that alloy bottom metal. If one cut that 25" barrel down to 22" it may be OK.

Really wish a dealer around here would have either. I want a new 375 as well but wanna hold one first. It's bad that they are made 30 minutes from my house and no one has one

Call me stupid, but I would really dig a Extreme Weather in 9.3x62 or 375 H&H. I finally handled one (300WSM) the other day, and it is a very nice rifle. To me, the "Alaskan" should be the Extreme Weather, in 338 or 375.

How about a Kimber Talkeena? Isn't it lighter?

I like the SS/laminate version also but was looking for an "African" gun. For me thats blue and walnut. But I was hoping the barrel contour would be a little lighter. The African 375 uses the same blanks as the 416 and 458 if I remember correctly. A 375 would be the biggest Alaskan. I'll keep looking for one to handle.

Can't find one anywhere around here. Guy told me today that there weren't any elephants in SC so what did I need a 375 for. I walked out of the store.

I checked with Carter's Country in Houston and was told they are not available yet. Possibly end of year.
