Thanks JG and nsaqam. And thanks for the offer, Bullet. MallardAddict, the list idea is a good one. Just off the top of my head, here goes:

James' first deer hunting trip equipment list:

Rifle-accounted for by AlaskanMatt(model & caliber TBD)
Scope- accounted for by JG Raider (Simmons Whitetail)
Bases-offers on the table, but TBD, based on rifle
Rings-
Scope lens caps/scope cover-
Sling-
Rifle case- Bulletbutt? (Maybe PM me if you are still up for it)
A box or two of ammo (TBD, based on above)
Hunting knife-accounted for by Toad (Ingram)
Blaze orange hunting hat and/or vest-
Grunt tube/rattling antlers? (if youre a proponent of one, heres a chance to make a convert, lol!)
Binoculars-

Anything else Im forgetting? Odds and/or ends that you have that you think might help?

How about a good day pack, for snacks, water, knife, gloves - the necessities most of us forget on a stalk until we cross the magical threshold from "rookie" to "hunter". ;-)

Excellent point, Matt--don't know how I left that one off. Hey wait a minute--are you saying it has something to do with that distinction you just made! lol So here's the revised list:

James' first deer hunting trip equipment list:

Rifle-accounted for by AlaskanMatt(model & caliber TBD)
Scope- accounted for by JG Raider (Simmons Whitetail)
Bases-offers on the table, but TBD, based on rifle
Rings-
Scope lens caps/scope cover-
Sling-
Rifle case- Bulletbutt? (Maybe PM me if you are still up for it)
A box or two of ammo (TBD, based on above)
Hunting knife-accounted for by Toad (Ingram)
Blaze orange hunting hat and/or vest-
Gloves-
Grunt tube/rattling antlers? (if youre a proponent of one, heres a chance to make a convert, lol!)
Binoculars-
Day pack-

Again, anything else Im forgetting? Odds and/or ends that you have that you think might help?

Ackley, that would be great. He's big for his age so I think a LG would do him fine, especially if he's layered up. I'll PM you.

Actually, I was referring to my own past mistakes. wink I shot a black bear last year and had to hike back to my fourwheeler to retreive my knives and game bags. crazy

Yep.

I saw a movie where only the military and the police had guns. It was called Schindler's List.

I'll send a cheap but serviceable spotting scope and a pretty good tripod for it if dclayton thinks that will be of use.
I'll look around for some more items and see if they can be used too.

nsaqam, that would be a great addition. Thanks! I think you have the address, but if not (or if you have other questions), just let me know...

I do indeed have the address.

It isn't a great spotter by any means but it works pretty well and the tripod is pretty decent.

I'll ship it soon Sir!

I'd like to mention this about last week when Jimmyd223 and I went to meet MallardAddict at Cabela's to give Matt the hard case I was donating to the kid.
The day before we went I had explained to Jimmy about the donated rifle and accessories from the 'fire and when I picked up Jimmy he had a brand new backpack for the kid. He doesn't get on the 'fire much because of his eyes, but his heart is still good as ever...
