Just made an online purchase of a Weaver Classic V9 in 3-9X38. I was wanting a low profile, gloss scope to compliment a 1972 production Remington 760 that I recently purchased. I teetered with the idea of mounting a period correct old steel tube Weaver, or an old Denver made Redfield. I ended up finding this scope online, and pulled the trigger on it. The price was right, so I didn't see it as much of a risk, considering that most folks seem to be satisfied with the current production Weavers.

Is anyone running this model on any of their rifles, and if so, have you been happy with it? Can I expect the optical quality to be comparable to the lower end Nikons or the Leupold VX-I's?

Thanks in advance for the input.

The V-9 is better than the Nikon pro-staff or the vx-1 and I've had all 3.

+1 (Scary I'm agreeing with Blackheart)

I've had a Japanese V9 for many years that has rode everything from muzzleloaders to 300s and 338s. It's never had a hiccup.

Thanks guys. I've always run Leupold, Burris & Nikon. Weaver is unchartered waters for me.

I hope that it is better than the V10, 2-10x38, as that has got to be 1 of the worst 1" tube scopes that I've ever used and certainly the worst 1" Weaver.

Jeff- What sort of issues did you have with the 2-10x38?

I thought that looking through a Weaver V10 was like looking through a paper towel tube with magnification. I thought that the size and magnification range would be great on a Winchester/USRA 70 WSSM, upon which the scope was mounted with I purchased it, but don't like seeing the inside of the tube when looking through the scope.

For an inexpensive scope, I find the $70 Philipines built Simmons 3.5-10x40 Whitetail Classic far superior to the Weaver V10.

V9 on my Tikka '06, love it.
V10, I gave it away last week. Very, very, very poor eye box.

I found the same thing with the V10 that you did. The "paper tube" analogy is about right.

I've had 2 V9s about 10 years ago and both were good scopes. I compared my old 1974 vintage 3x9 Leupold to one of them while I was at the range one day and optically it appeared to be better.

I own a batch of V 9s... and each of them is at least in the 12 to 15 y/o range...optically they are great.. I can see a little better out of a Leupold, but then for what I paid for the Weavers were no where near the price of the Leupolds...

personally I love them...

I have looked at the Weaver 2.5 x 10...or V 10 as they call it.. can't believe it is even in the same line up...

the optic quality of the V 10 borders on garbage... I've never plunked down the cash for one..didn't feel it was worth it..

I also have multiple V6s and V4s.... plus several V 16 and V 24s...I think all are good scopes for the price... strong values..

The V9's are good scopes, but they do have their limitations. The eye relief is on the short side, I would not want one on a hard kicker.
