Just tried the Deep Curls in a couple of finicky rifles with pleasing results.

First one is a PF FWT in 257R. Have tried all the "recommended" loads of 4350 with 100gr Horn's, 117gr Sierra's, etc. Almost always shoots between 1.5" and 2". Bought some new 120gr Deep Curls and tried them with IMR4831. Bingo! Almost all charge weights were less than 1".

The other rifle is a Browning Safari 270 that my dad bought new. It, too has been exasperating to find a good load for. The 150gr DC's shot great with H4831sc. I'd really prefer a 130 for where I hunt, but I'm interested to try these on the local deer herd.

I'm a happy camper because I like both of these rifles, and now they have finally earned the right to be fired in anger.

Hopefully, these results are a harbinger of future success with the DC's grin

Speer just needs to add some more bullet weights to their lineup. Especially their 7mm lineup.

Second that. Especially in 140 gr.

southtexas,

I had the same experience with 150gr DC's in two different 270WSM's and 180gr DC's in a 300WSM.

Personally, I believe they are a great bang-for-the-buck bonded bullet. They don't look *fast* and the BC's are not up there with the Ballistic Tip, Accubond, Matchkings and similar bullets but definitely performed in several of my rifles; and, shoot better than any other Speer that I have used in the last twenty years..

I bought several hundred TSX's from heavywalker for a 6mm Remington problem child, I almost feel guilty wanting to try the 90gr DC's with all the TSX's but I may do it anyway.

Have also had very good luck, accuracy-wise, with the 150 DC and H4831 in a .270 Win. Muzzle velocity is around 2,850.

Yes, it's curious to me that they seem to have started with heavy-for-caliber bullets (160-284; 150-277; 120-257) but they market them mostly as deer bullets.

I've been wondering how they would perform for bear/elk/moose in the more sedate cartridges that can't produce high enough velocities to warrant premium bullets.

The 175 7mm bullet seems like it would work great for the 7x57 or 7mm-08, on paper at least. I haven't heard any 1st hand accounts so I am hesitant to try though.

Wish that Speer would offer some in the 50-60 gr. range in a .224 caliber.

I was just thinking RDW when this thread poped up. Hey by the way, if you could spare some of those tsx's give me a pm. I just got a 6mm rem that I'm going to start loading for. Thanks buddy...

A DC 70gr. semi-spitzer for shorter range (300 and under) would be nice also and should stabilize in the standard 22-250 1:14 twist as their regular 70gr. semi-spitzer does now..
Great for deer and black bear..

In the 280 Ack the Speer 160 gr has always been my most accurate bullet and all i use for hunting in my rifle. I'm running out of Hot Core so will be changing soon to the Deep Curl.

The 160 gr. .284 has worked well out of my 280 on a couple of elk. One @ the extreme distance of almost 60 yds. I'm happy.
Cheers

Every thing i have shot with the Speer has dropped right there, including the Bear i killed in Canada a few years back. Love this bullet for Big Game
