I just got in from the fast opening, high country. In my area, the snowline is about 7000 ft. now.
<br> Coming down, I spotted 3 turkeys. Two smallish, and one full sized bird. I saw no beards. I got as close as 25-30 yds. to the big bird. They were right at 6000 feet.
<br> These must be the Merriam (Sp ?) Turkeys I have heard about. I spotted one, last summer at almost 7000 feet.
<br> This is great news for Kalifornians. Most of the Rio Grande bird's habitat is on private land. But, these birds, apparently, live in the higher Yellow Pine/black Oak zones. Much of which is public land here. E
