Does bullet manufacturer really matter? Is a Nosler 40 gr. BT any different than a 40 gr. V Max? Or would they be interchangable in reloads?

i've had good luck with both bullets named. some guns are more selective than others. work a load up with one and try the other see what your gun likes.

My .223s and .22-250 generally like those two (Ballistic Tip and V-Max) almost interchangably in th esame weights. Now the Sierra Blitxking is a different story - it takes a completely different powder, etc to shoot as well as the other two. For that reason, I usually stick to the BT or V-Max in .224, and use the Blitzking in my .243.

And if your Hornet is a 1:16 twist like my 1885 Low-Wall dad's been playing with, it won't like either of the 40 grain BT or V-Max's, tumbles at 25 yards.

Loaded it with .223 40 grain and .224 40 grain Sierra's and some 34 grain Speer HP's (I think it was Speer anywayswithout double checking ) and it immediately is shooting less than an inch group.

I've gotta get some time off to go shoot my new rifle, before dad has it worn out.

You may not appreciate me saying this, but there is one sure way to find out!

Buy a box of each, grab some lil gun and some H-110 and maybe an lb. of 300 MP, then try a half dozen differnt load densities of each, then duplicate or triple that by trying different OAL's. By then you'll probably have a pretty good idea whether it matters or not.

What GW said, unfortunately. Only your rifle can tell you.

Start with some Rem 6 1/2 primers, 13.0 LilGun and the Lee Factory Crimp Die. Seat the bullet to feed through your magazine and shoot each bullet with no other changes. If neither one shoots, then and only then try another powder.

Thanks for the in-put, reason I ask is I've worked up a load with the V-Max, but sometimes availability can be an issue.

This has been my experience as well, however I made those discoveries the "hard" way; by working up loads for each bullet in each rifle.

If you find that the NBT works as well as the Vmax, keep an eye on shootersproshop where you can score 'em CHEAP and in bulk.

I have used the 40 grain NBT, V max and Blitzking over 13 grains of lil gun in my Hornet without any problems. All three shoot well with a slight but noticeable edge in accuracy with the BK.
