I need something i can strap to a backpack, so either a short 22, or something that takes down or folds.
Most important are weight and accuracy, i don't want to spend more than $200 but i don't want "cheap" either.
Thanks for any ideas

http://www.crickett.com/shop_by_brand.php?manufacturers_id=27Not sure if this would fit your situation, but they are very compact and pretty accurate.
Turn me loose, set me free, somewhere in the middle of Montana!

Henry seems to think their's is better than the Crickett. It is over your $20.00 Budget though.
Me? I own a Crickett. For $99.99 at Walmart it is tough to beat.
I do like that they have Fire sights.
The Rossi Youth Combo at Walmart is a nice setup too.

Thanks for any ideas I TOO would love to find a .22 rifle or handgun like you describe. One alternative I've considered is getting a Thompson Center HotShot, cutting the barrel off at 16 inches and installing a [heavily] modified stock (maybe a wire-stock) so as to keep the darn thing LEGAL!

Remington 514 single shot youth model. 18" barrel. 36.5" overall length. 3 lb 15 oz with a full size walnut stock. I've got a birch stock around here somewhere that I cut down for the grand kids that would shave 1" and a couple ounces off the above.
Pert near indestructible. One on GB right now for $99.95.

Thanks guys
The crickett seems like a nice plinker but i'm going to look into the Henry and the Remington.
I was thinking this would be cool for non-hunting backpack trips (survival training/bushcraft stuff) for dinner targets of opportunity like squirrel and birds. I need to check my regs for hunting game birds with a rimfire but I think its okay here in Oregon.

How about this one, but could be a little hard to find. It's "The Hamilton #027 .22 cal." Measures 30" and weighs just 2.5# donsm70

The Henry mini-bolt is great, I'm happy with the one I bought my kid a couple years ago.

Marlin XT-22, 7 shots, stainless steel with a 16" barrel and short stock for under 4lbs. http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/xt/XTY.asp

Squirrels have a season and are only available to be hunted year-round in a small portion of Southern Oregon if I recall.
Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

The t/c hot shot is a great light weight, durable, and accurate option. The eabco company has scope bases available if needed.

My daughter and I shot her hot shot couple hundred rounds yesterday. Accurate as heck and very well made, love the fact you can add 1" stock extensions. I have a Chipmunk that never gets used anymore now that we have the TC.

I know you didn't ask about combo guns, but I've got a breakdown .22/20g Rossi. You might consider one since it's a single shot .22 and still affords you the opportunity to hunt quail and things you might use a 20g. I think this is the one I have: BTW, when I bought mine there was a rebate through Rossi. I don't think, in total I spent more than $150.

I went looking for the same sorta thing a couple of years ago. Low and behold, I didn't need to look any further than my own gunsafe. The old Browning Auto-22, circa 1971, still packable, still brings down the busytails, though not a single shot or bolt. Don

The old Rem Nylon 66's were very light but many had a serious problem with loose barrels. The barrels were held in the plastic stock with a shim instead of being threaded into the receiver. If the shim got loose, it was impossible to keep sighted in. I had one of those. I could sight it in to hit a dime at 50 yds, but 5 shots later it would be hitting 6" away.
