Those words, delivered by my father so many years ago as he pointed to my then much smaller work boots, are once again rebounding around my head.

Work that I didn't want to do, or when I wanted to do it was the source of my anxt then, and over the decades that have followed, that circumstance has repeated itself several times. This weekend is no exception. I'm a thousand miles (or more) from where I want to be this Easter weekend, and I'll be here until the task in front of me is finished (perhaps several more days).

Several things have changed from then 'til now; my boots are pull-ons, I have far less hair, and dad has passed on - but only in body, 'cause his words still echo - and motivate me.

It's a valuable thing to be able to fall back on the selfless words and example of a good father. Sorry you are away from friends and family on Easter weekend, but you're doing your dad proud, I would believe.

Does have to be that way sometimes Mako. I believe there are a lot of us who had our fathers instill in us the prime directive. Take care of business. You do that first thing off the bat. Take care of business.

My family all knew him (of course), and accuse me of being a chip off the ol' block. >grin<

"Take care of business."

Seems it was called;"Learning how to work" in the circles I was brought up in.

I've tried using that phrase recently, and all I've recieved in response was a blank look.

Got a strong hunch you and I walked similar paths.

I'll get it done (don't have to like it).

Thanks!

And to you, and yours as well.

Do me a favor, and make a youngster squeal with delight - that'd be all the medicine I need. A tickle, a toss skyward, a hunk of pie 'n' ice cream - I'm sure you know how.

Fix your problem. Mantra in our house when one of the girls is whining about the other or someone else.

Happy Easter Mako.

I spent way too many holidays and family event days working so I do understand, but as My Dad always told me. "Just do what ya got to do and move on, better days are coming".

My mother was a widow with three little children. I was 8 when dad passed, my brother was 5 and sister was 3.

Mom never married again and she raised us as a single mom. When she would leave for work she would say, "Kids do what your brother tells you to do, Mark - dont ask them to do anything unreasonable."

Now that I am in leadership positions I always hear those words ringing in my head. "Do what your bosses need done - but never ask a subordinate to do anything unreasonable."
