I've had good luck with Malbec. I like Malbecs also. Most folks don't know what it is, so I didn't include it. There are some outstanding Malbecs coming out of Argentina and Chile right now. There are also some outstanding Tuscan Chiantis out there, as well as some lesser known Bordeauxs and Burgundys. Here is a bit of wine trivia for you that I picked up in Europe last time we were over there; A vintner in France, say a Gran Crux, is allotted only so many labels for its premier Bordeuax or Burgundy. Once the labels are used up, the vintner has to sell the remaining wine as regular table wine. They then label those bottles as a regular table wine under their vineyard, but not with the same name. If you happen to know what lables they use, you can get a VERY expensive wine for a little bit of money. So many good wines, so little time. Ed

Rodney Strong. No it isn't "cheap", but I know what I am getting, and it is worth every penny of it.

Yellow Tail or Columbia Crest cost about the same and much better wines.
often find Sutter Home in ghetto bodegas. Yellow Tail is a well known anti-hunting company.

The person who asked (for him and his wife) wasn't a drinker. People who don't drink will not like all those mentioned. They are too dry and bitter.

Canyon Wind winery in Palisade Colorado has some really good wines that are inexpensive as well as Colorado's first $100 a bottle wine. Norman Christianson is the founder and an avid outdoorsman.

Carlo Rossi - $15 a gallon. We put away a gallon of paisano and one of sangria every couple weeks. Man, you must be shoppin' the high price stores, bought a gallon of Paisano tonight for $9.97 Couple years ago when I first saw the Doc that is now my doctor, I told him, Doc, I need to get in to shape. He looked at me and said, GW, round is a shape. I knew right then we would get along fine. He told me after a short conversation that he'd like to see me have at least two glasses of wine a night. I told him, Doc, that's not a hard prescription to fill. Best GWB

"Mad dog 20-20" is the most expensive wine on earth. Ask one of its' devotees just how much it has cost him.

Rex-Goliath Merlot is a good inexpensive wine. I can usually find it for 5 bucks and my wife likes it. I seldom drink anything but it is palatable.

drank a lot of Boone's farm in high school. Ya, that was the "gateway drug".... Then one graduated to Shaeffer (beer), the least likely to cause "beer face". After THAT you were ready for the big time.... Budweiser. OTOH Carling Black Label was cheapest. Of course this was all before "Lite" beers. More than that.... liquor was so toxic it'd wipe out a teenager pretty quick. We had a gallon of Wild Turkey someone had lifted from their parents hidden under a log by the lake. We'd hit it on weekends before going to the "teen club night" at the community center. Lasted us all summer Birdwatcher

Columbia Crest is about as good of a wine as you'll find for the money, also I will never turn my nose up at Houge wine.

Not a big wine drinker here unless with dinner,(I usually stick with the craft brews) but the wife is a big fan of Barefoot Moscato, and Merlot and Crane Lake Sweet red and Melbec. We also have several regional vinyards here in Michigan that produce excellent wines as well.
Not inexpensive but my personal favorite with a thick cut steak right off the grill, Coppola Merlot.

Rex Goliath makes a ridiculously cheap series of cabs, merlot, shiraz and a "red table." They're great wines, very drinkable, fool wine snobs, and stack up to a $30 bottle, at around $6 a bottle (I actually picked up another half-case for 4.50 a bottle last week.)
The labels say "Rex Goliath 47 lb Rooster," and have a big old rooster on them.
