The Mayans had it right. If youre going to predict the future, its best to aim far beyond your life expectancy, lest you wind up red-faced in a bunker overstocked with Spam and ammo.

Coriolis effect; yes to generalize. Hunt better, get closer and none of it will apply nor matter. Exactly! That's why I'm going to spears and throwing knives. That's what real hunting is all about.

The French had an expression. "On zee beeg gun, zee liddle knife poot!" (I doubt they were talking about those monsters.)

Military snipers have a formula for figuring in spin drift.

OTOH, now and then you will see a punted football that does not nose over to follow its trajectory and the reason is high Sg. Don't recall seeing a passed ball ever do that, but maybe so. Dan, When I throw a tight spiral I always noticed that the ball did not nose over, but retained its attitude throughout its flight. When I started watching pro ball on TV, with the help of all of todays video technology and skills, I noticed that balls thrown by the pros DO nose over. Guess I always figured they put something on the ball that I knew nothing about to make it do that. Maybe I just spin the ball too much.
Our God reigns. Harrumph!!! I often use quick reply. My posts are not directed toward any specific person unless I mention them by name.

Interesting thread. Unless someone's beaten me to it, I'll coin the term 'spindage'.

Around here we have a league that shoots a lot at 600 yards, 1000 yards, and Palma (800, 900, and 1000 yards) using such boat tailed spitzers as 80 grain .224s, 115 grain 6mms, 142 grain 6.5mms, and 155 or 190 grain .308s. Velocities are typically 2800-3000 fps.
As near as we can tell, spin drift is non-existent.
The Coriolis force from the earth spinning can be calculated. It's about 1" when shooting south to north at 1000 yards.
Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.
Democrats would burn this country to the ground, if they could rule over the ashes.

2 questions: Are the shooters matching the twist of barrels with the bullet they intend to shoot 1000 yds? I'd suspect they are. Maybe I don't completely understand it, but doesn't the Coriolis effect vary with location, i.e. how far from the equator and time of flight as well as distance shooting?

Coriolis Effect is a function of latitude and direction of the shot. Spin Drift is very real, but it's hard to see the effect if your rifle is zeroed at a given distance.
