For a 270 Win, which 140gr would you choose as an all-around bullet for deer, elk, targets, etc? NAB or BTSP?

I did a search but didn't get much, sorry if this has already been asked.

You guys might remember one of my previous threads where I asked about a cartridge to compliment my 300 Win Mag and many suggested a .270. Well, now I have one! A T3 to be exact.

I have some 140gr NAB to try, but am curious about the Hornady BTSP since they are 1/2 the price and I will shoot the 270 ALOT!!! I can buy both bullets locally, so that is not an issue.

Assuming they are equal in accuracy, would I be giving up anything going with the BTSP vs. the NAB on elk? The 270 will be my back-up hunting rifle if anything happens to my 300 Win Mag.

I just want one bullet and one load, and plan to shoot the heck out of this rifle.

I'd use whichever one shot well, or whichever was cheaper. I think the Hornady will do just fine.

The 140 Horn over 59 grains of H4831 is ridiculously accurate out of my pawn shop .270..

At half the price of the accubomb, I'll gladly shoot it, and I'm sure it'll work nicely on anything I aim at.

I only use the 140 AB, great on game and very accurate.

My go-to bullet is the Accubond. Never shot the 140 hornady in particular, but have shot hornady bullets in general. If it might be used on elk, go Accubond. They will break an elk's shoulders.

I have about fifty 140 AB's loaded up for big-game hunting and a bunch of 135 SMK's loaded up for everything else. They shoot same POI out past 400 yards with similiar charges of H4831sc(58.5-59 grains).

I know you said one bullet but it was beyond easy swapping those two bullets out. That or just shoot a 140 Horn....grin

I've used both and prefer the ABs for accuracy and performace on game (deer and elk). Most recently, though, I've found good paper results with Hornady 130 GMXs, but have yet to run one through a critter.

Best load I found so far with my 270 Winchester Vanguard S2
is 59gr of RL22 and 140gr Gameking or 140gr Accubond same
powder charge. I,d work up to that load as it,s near max. Got 3080fps with the load. I would use the Accubonds for hunting.

Myself i would prefer the Accubond, but the smart thing to do is let your rifle choose the one it liked.

Sam, I did the same thing, only with 140 gr Game Kings instead of SMK's. Same POA/POI in my 270 WSM.

I've only killed one speedgoat with the SGK, but 4 speedgoats and 5 whitetails with the AB. Bang-flops are the rule with the AB. Given that at this rate I'm amortizing the price of a box of bullets over the next 30 years or more, I'm not worried about the price per bullet.

I have had great results accuracy wise with BTSP in several calibers.IMO the BTSP is every bit as good as the AccuBond performance wise on deer.

That Hornady has been working for a very long time now. It won't retain as much weight as the super bullets or look as pretty, but almost without fail it will be balled up under the hide on the far side of a very dead animal.

Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!
