I'm almost ready to break down and buy a Dillon. Are any of 'em compatible with RCBS dies?

Yes! Any of the large Dillons. The 300, 450, 550 650 and the 1050 all use regular loading dies. Good luck and enjoy.

Now it's a volume game - the model you choose depends upon th number you want to make in the time you want to make them.
I went 650 because I wanted to be able to do 300 plus in an hour and I'm happy.

I have th 550 and load mostly rifle calibers. The only limiting factor for me when I am cranking them out is how fast I can insert a case in the shell holder and stick a bullet into the seater die.
When my wife helps (smaller fingers) the sound of clinking cases fills the room.

Thanks, guys, just what I wanted to hear. A friend offered to give me a Square Deal with 4 sets of dies and I'll get a 550 for the rifle stuff.

That is a real friend. The SDB runs about $250 and each set of dies if set up on a shell plaet runs about $75. That friend deserves 5th of good burbon or scotch at least.

WeaselsRus,
You have been giveb awesome advice! I bought ny first Dillon in the late 70's or maybe early 80's, and it was a RL450 and I still have her, I have 2 RL550 one is a basic and the other has auto primer and auto powder dump. You can't go wrong with a Dillon!! I havn't loaded very many Rifle rounds with it but the ones I did were great!! After owning it for 6 months I had my reloading room in the basement of the house, I would get in it, I would tell the wife no interruptions, the best I ever did on the RL450 loading 9mm and 2 days after I bought it I found 5 primer tubes for CHEAP, so I had all those plus the one I had and had the feeder tube full so that gave me 700 primers ready, so the race was on, I loaded 750 rounds of 9mm and I have never done that again, Now that I 30 years older and look back at stuff qand I find it hard to believe some of the dumbes thing in this world!

I've been reloading 26 years on a rockchucker. Got a 550B a few weeks ago and love it. I keep saying I should have done this years ago. The plan was to load pistol and .223 for my AR on the dillon, everything else would still get loaded on the single stage. Well that plan is going out the window. Everything I load ball powder in, is going to be done on the dillon.

For bolt guns, consider a Lee Collet die, eliminates the need for lube. You can mount a Redding or RCBS powder measure at station two and run it manually. 100rds/hr would be easy. A Dillon 550B is the single most useful reloading press ever designed.

Please help me with this. It's hard to believe, but I can't find any videos of how to properly clean and lube my new XL 650 machine! Can you send this question out and hopefully someone can help with at least some pics, but hopefully a video. What brand of grease do you recommend, etc. Thank you very much!

Why not contact Dillion directly. They have a great customer service dept.

I load everything on my RL550B, from 25-20 to 458 WM, I do weigh every charge of stick powder, but it even meters IMR 4064 to within .2grn, ball and flake powders are spot on once it settles in the hopper, the belted magnums take a little more powder than the LARGE rifle charge bare will throw, they do have the "Belted Magnum" powder thrower but I'm cheap. It can pump them out fast too, the one and only time I ever counted them for time was 470rnds of 40S&W in 45 minuets, I usually operate it slower than that. and yes about 75% of my dies are RCBS, they work in the Dillon just fine!
I only use my RCBS single stage to form cases.

The Dillons ain't software.
"Good enough" isn't.
