I have been a Ruger fan for most of my life. But my BIL recently bought me a Howa 1500, 22" barrel in 270 Win. I had some handloads I had put together for a friend, 140gr Failsafes over 50.5 gr. of IMR 4831. We were siting in some other rifles and I just had to shoot my new gun and in between other shooters, started putting out 2 shot groups(had 12 rounds total). Low and behold, these 2 shot groups ranged from 1/2" c/c up to 3/4" c/c. Headed back to the reloading table and reloaded 20 rounds and my first group of three was right at 1" and took 3 groups to site in at 1.5" high at 100 yards. The last group was the same size as the first group. Needless to say, I'm now ready for deer season with my new Howa.
What I'm wondering........has anyone else had any experience with these rifles? This thing is used with a Nikko Stirling 3x9 scope and cost, with tax $358.
I know some about Howa, they made the original Vanguard for Weatherby, and also made a long gun for Smith&Wesson. But that's about it.
