I would like to know if it is legal for a US citizen to sell a rifle scope or binoculars to a Canadian citizen and ship them to Canada? I view the Alberta hunting forum and they have a for sale section and was thinksing of posting my scope and bino's for sale but want to make sure its alright.

The binos are not a problem. The scope may be. Believe it or not the problem is not on the Canadian side of the border. It's the US itself. Many items now need an export permit from the US government and due to our previous Lieberal governments Canada did not sign on as an export friendly country with the US. What you can just throw in the mail and send to say England you cannot legally send to Canada. This subject gets beat to death on Canadian forums and I'm far from an expert but this is the way I understand it. Also there's a $100.00 limit on goods that we Canuks can bring in. Now having said this my brother brought a Leupold scope back from Phoenix for me and my last stock from the States was $700 shipped to me and there were no problems with either. I have had a couple Americans that did not want to ship
me a used scope.

Huge fines to the Americans that export the items (scopes) from the USA. Someone suggested calling it something other that rifle scopes -- lenses or some such, but if the worst case scenario happens the fines can go into 6 figures for the shipper.

Should be, as long as the feds don't think they can be duct taped to a rifle. laugh

Scopes cannot be exported to Canada from the US without a US export permit.Binos, spotting scopes and rangefinders are fine.I don't buy scopes from US Campfire members,it could cause unpleasant repercussions for them, and I don't want that. Monashee

There are some dealers that must be scared stiff of breaking some aspect of a vague law on either side of the border. I have had U.S. gun dealers refuse to sell/ship me a used gun book because I am a Canadian.
Major book dealers ship gunbooks to Canada but the actual cost of shipping can be prohibitive.
