I put in a lot of days during the season hunt and guide in a number of remote areas in the Adirondacks but haven't been doing multi days. Just picked up a Kifaru ParaTarp though.

Great photos Craig! Gunner is doing a great job with photography! Still working on his camera taking abilities. He was too busy making sure I released everything. Glad I brought the remote. He did pretty good for a 10 month old. He got plenty of exercise. But I let him nap once in a while. Good times. Good company. http://s107.photobucket.com/albums/m285/mtmiller2006/MT%20hiking/#!cpZZ2QQtppZZ20

Great photos mtmiller. Good pup too. Carrying his pack over snowfields and across boulder fields and at 10 months! Gonna make a great companion. (already has!)

I make quite a few trips to the beartooths. Fish for goldens in the Copper Lakes up sunlight. Cutthroats in the mountains around yellowstone.

Indeed there are. Those are beautiful trout Ken, did you get them from the Caroga Lake area, or the ponds over in your neck of the woods? I was going to do a overnight with my radison canoe at Murphy Lake, by hopefalls I've had good luck there. What did you catch those beauties on? Your kids must have had a blast

Great pics and discussion so far. Here are a few pics from a trip to the Wind River mountains a few years back. I usually pack a lightweight flyrod, and a basic assortment of flies: caddis, parachute adams, wooly buggers and scuds if fishing the lakes. Golden trout are in this lake, but I never saw one. Did have a good time fishing for these aggressive brookies though.

I've got a lake in my neighborhood that has a really good population of goldens. But you have to get to them at ice out or near freeze up. Going to try for them again this year. E

Gorgeous pics of lakes & fish. That Fall brookie is a stunner!
After years of fishing backpack lakes, I have lumped our BC & WA lakes into three categories with different gear & presentations for each.
Moose country "tea water" lakes with tannin stained water. Bug filled lakes where flies rule. Usually rainbow or brookies. Big fish in many of them to 10 lbs. & more. Swampy shorelines can make these hard to fish or even launch a watercraft.
Deep clear lakes with hard clean shore lines. Flies work sometimes but hardware rules for me: spinners, spoons and small salt water salmon jigs fished deep off a log raft if possible. Usually rainbow or cutts, some of them huge at lower elevation lakes.
Alpine lakes. Gorgeous settings, clear, usually small rainbows or cutts. Flies with spin gear, casting bubble and a long light leader is my default presentation. Really like the reversing handle spin/fly pack rods for the high lakes.
This thread is making me want to fish a high lake NOW but snow is deep up there.

That's Leroy (RIP)...American Pit Bull Terrier. It's great having a dog to bring along..especially if he can pack in his food, bedding ect. Oh, and the jug of whiskey! Thanks for the info! The look on his face made me giggle...
