I need some good Loads for Big Black Bear. 400-550# It figures I just sold my .300 8 weeks ago and I just won a 7 day guided Black Bear Hunt in Northern Saskatoon. Shot will be 25-50 yds. Guide said the .270 is okay, But try to find some "Heavy Loads" Like Barnes TSX 150 grain. All I can find online is 130 grain barnes. The Gun is a Brand New Remington 700 SPS .270 w/22" barrel and 1-10 twist. Bought it for my Boy but never took it out yet. If you have any recomendations or advice Please let me know. Also if you Reload, I would be more than Happy to Purchase some from you. Thanks. Paul

Didn't realize they hunted bear within the Saskatoon city limits? Guessing your rifle has a 1 in 10" twist. 150 partitions and IMR 7828. 130 TTSX or 140 TSX with H4831SC.

If using factory loads, I would look at the Federal Premium with 150 grain Partition.

Simple answer to a good question. 57.0 gr. of Rldr-22 and a 150 Partition. Easy 1" groups at 100 yds. and 2930 fps in my Pre-64. It'll work just fine. Bear in Fairbanks

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

You really don't need it...you're fine with factory 150 NPT's.
You can search around but you won't find anything any better.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

Grab a blue box from Federal or a green box of factory ammo from Remington.

Good grief. If your just buyin over the counter .270 ammo, grab a box or two of the Remington green box 150gr core-lok's. We're killing elk with them, with no issues at all. Unless large bone contact is made, they're passing all the way through.... Easy fix

The barnes 130 are devastating bear medicine. For bear at close range you want a bone crushing bullet and the barnes is it. For other critters I prefer the partitionthough I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a bear with a 150 partition. Wish you the best on your hunt.

My Remington .270 didn't shoot Core-lokts or any other 150gr load well at all, except for the Federal 150gr Partiton and discontinued 140gr Failsafe. I'dgo with the Partition and know for sure you've got a good bullet.

I'd shoot any black bear with a .277 130TTSX and wouldn't think twice about it. That bullet will go through a black bear and "look" for its next target. Partition is a great bullet, never had any good luck with them when I needed to "thread-the-needle" so-to-speak. Get some Barnes Vortex since you don't handload and let your worries be over....have a good time.

Another option that wouldn't cost as much as the Federal Premium 150 gr Partioner is the 150 gr Fusion bullet. Its a very tuff bullet and alot cheaper.

The way the Barnes bullets work is that they open up with high speed to a 4 blade helical saw & turn flesh into mush with the help of hydrostatics.
As long as they open up, they'll work & from what I've read and seen, 90% or more of the time they will penetrate all the way thru w/ little to no loss in weight.
As long as you hit the vitals on the bear, it doesn't matter what weight Barnes bullet you use in the 270 at that range. It will look like those organs went thru a blender.
I have to admit my experience it limited, so I'm open for critique from those with more experience. One time, my buddy shot a large muley buck at less than 50 yards with his 7mm RM and we could not find the exit wound until we pulled off the skin, but the vital zone was all Tore Up.

55.5 grains of H4831sc for the 150 Interlock. May seem odd but lately I am seeing more 270's that prefer the 150 grain bullets.

If you are handloading try the 150gr Swift A-Frames over a load H4831. If you are buying factory ammo look at the Remington Safari Ammo with a 140gr Swift A-Frame.
