Quality of the new marlins is definitely on the rise. I recently checked out a few new guns while at a local gunshop near Ilion. Their actions were smooth,The fit was great, the finish was still a lot duller than I Like, but much better than anything I've seen over the past 2 years.

I bought a new Marlin 1895 a few weeks ago, and it's put together well. The only thing I can pick apart is that the forend wood is a little proud. But then, it's also that way on my older Marlin. Being mainly a Winchester guy, I've always thought Marlin forends were way too generous. I'm pretty happy with this new 1895.

Lot's of Marlin bashing there lately and I think folks would be interested in hearing some good news about them..
