How many of you and how often have you killed Big Game at 600 or more yds. It doesn't matter, deer, elk, lopes, etc.

This is NOT a bait and bash thread. I'm sincerely interested. In S. Ark really long range sighting of deer doesn't happen often. In Eastern Ark we have large bean/crop fields, but I don't live or hunt there.

How about some honest answers not internet bravado.

This is a PS;

Mr. John Burns doesn't have to respond although he is welcome. His long range hunting/shooting is in evidence here. smile smile

Killed big game....70 yards max, I hunt in the woods.

Have shot a lot out to 600 yards in Highpower ranges in the past. Now limited to 100 yard shootingfrown

Nope. Occassionally get the chance to shoot targets on friends 600 and 800 yard ranges, which makes my very occassional 300 yard shots on deer feel like chip shots.

Hoping to put a 500-600 yard range on my farm this summer after we cut some timber

If you don't mind, how often do you SEE long range opportunities, whether you take them or not?

I see them every year, I used to hunt mostly with a 30-06, but knew the limits and decided to try something a bit flatter shooting, just in case.

I also like the 40-50 yard shots as well...

Well Guys, I'm still waiting.

An honest question..

? Do we have more "long range target shooters" than L R hunters??

Around 10% of the deer I kill are over 600. Most are between 250 and 450 yards.

Couple of mule deer(6.5-284 140 Berger & 6.5 Leopard 130 Berger), one antelope (7 WSM 162 A-Max), and one elk (7mm Dakota 200 grain Wildcat) past 600 yards.
Son has killed one antelope beyond 600 yards (7 SAUM 162 A-Max).
All of these were center-grip XP-100's.

Well Bob, let's call it 'horseshoes'. 1 point for being close, but not a leaner. grin grin

IMHO 400-500 yds AIN'T close range either.
