Knocking around this afternoon I walk into one semi-pricey but cool gunshop in CA, and noted they had a quartet of #1's in a rack. It seems the guns were part of an estate. A nice #1B .22-250 with good wood had already been snapped up, as well as a #1B '06. What was left was a homely .243 #1V that had been shortened, and another #1 that lay hidden partly behind some paperwork.

When it was handed to me I found a #1B with nice figure on both sides of the stock(not common), 6mm Rem caliber, and the famous barrel stamp "Made in the 200th Year of American Liberty". No rings or box, but otherwise looked unfired. The price was over twice what I paid for my first #1 twenty years ago. Did I care? No. Why buy it? I don't have a 6mm Rem - that's reason enough, isn't it?

I was really in the market for a interesting 1911, but the Ruger was pretty much sold when I saw it. It will join my .270 & .300 mag #1B's, which are both Liberty models as well, and both excellent shooters.

Exactly what I'll do with a 6mm I don't know - perhaps shoot it at prairie dogs while the .22-250 is cooling off. In any case, I'm not worried too much about getting it to shoot well. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Good find. You dont have to justify the purchase of a 6mm Remington, its a nice little round. I would rather have the 6mm over the 243.
