On the Ural river of the Republic of Kazakhstan where it will soon meet the Caspian Sea. Europe on the right side of the river, Asia on the left.

The company sponsored a contest the day with the #8. No idea of the fish but I have since seen, river now thawed, a lot of what I would call carp. Remember, folks are just trying to eat... With the Caspian the industry here, before oil, was caviar as it is loaded with sturgeon that we have to "design around" it and the Caspian seal (a land locked seal...). We have to collect all rain, waste, whatever water that lands on the projects offshore property and send it back onshore for processing. Contrary to what most folks think of 2nd (3rd?) world requirements vs. the North America. We are installing "stuff' here that differs little from what we do in the America's.

Looks much like any ice fishing contest I've ever attended. More holes, and fishermen than there could possibly be fish.

The idea of fishing a frozen river has never appealed to me all that much. I've augered through two feet of "good" ice on a lake's main body, or bay, only to see just a few inches near inlets, or outlets.
