Yesterday evening it was snowing like crazy here in East TN. So I decided to grab the 45-70 and go to the woods and sit till dark. Along about 4PM I noticed some movement on the hillside I was watching. Sure enough it was a buck. The cover was thick so I decided to watch him and hopefully get a little closer. What I didn't expect, was for him to walk to within 15 yards of where I was sitting. As soon as he started to turn and climb a small embankment he stoped and paused for a moment looking right at me. He knew something wasn't quite right. I had the crosshairs right at the base of his neck and between his left shoulder blade. When I squeezed the trigger he fliped over backwards with his feet in the air and never moved a muscle. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> These big bullets hit with authority and don't tear up too much meat either. Got to luve em!

That is impressive. What bullet were you using? My 45.70 is my bear gun so I load mine with the BB 430 gr HC. It's is a fairly stout load. But I like it I count on it to hit with authority too.

Hogbuster; you're using the 300 gr. HPs, huh? They hit like a freakin' freight train.

I load mine with H-4198 and 350gr HORNADY flat point bullets. I hope to find the bullet when I skin and butcher it tomorrow morning. I can't find a exit wound im hopeing the bullet is in one of the rear hams.
