Nice one, Don! I'm digging that retro ammo, too. Let us know how it shoots. What scope you going to use?

Thats a beauty Don. You did very well......
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Thanks guys.
I would highly recommend Perry County Firearms. As you all know, they aren't cheap, but they specialize in pre-64 Model 70s.
bearstalker. It is a toss up as to whether I shoot this one or not.
I really don't need to, but it is awfully tempting.
Poconojack. Thanks again for the tip.

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

First time here I have a few mod 70's u guys may like. 61' 06 target 54' 06 target in sporter stock, and the 61'target in marksman stock, the 54' is my Carlos Hathcock SW GA beanpatch whitetail hammer. I have never pulled the trigger with that gun that was not bang flop, DRT . 59' Varminter in 220 swift, my all time favorite crow slayer . I just ran across a signed target from 3-10-09 where I shot a 5 shot 1, 1/8" 300 yard using Rem 50 gr poly tip boat tail factory ammo( swift). it was 87 deg late and dead calm, not bad for 50's technology. 56' Varminter in .243 win. . Ill save a few for later all these guns are easy sub MOA and have shot 5 shot sub .5 on perfect days with pet factory ammo.

Not a pre 64 but a good one, a 90's sporter varmint 26" in .223 rem, I traded thru 3 of these till I found one as or more accurate than nut behind trigger. These were sleepers back when I started buying and trading in them. This one is a hammer with bullets up to 55 gr, It will not stabilize the 69 gr match stuff, I think I have 1 in 12 twist. a Coyote lite in .25wssm that I bought new on a lark that has become a favorite whitetail ,coyote hammer. The thing is lite, it points like a mod 12 ,16 ga pump, Ive become a large .25 cal lover ,I shoot 110 gr accubonds and the winchester 120 gr PEP ammo. The deer do a little dance , hunch and jump but all go down in a blink.. I have a 4.5x14 vx3 with the varmint reticule on this one and love the scope, favorite grab and go,ride in the truck most deer season mod 70.

If its OK to slip a non mod 70 in here are a couple of favorites that I shoot on the cheap. A 56' non CMP mod 52C and a new to me, re issue Zanders HB mod 52C sporter. both shoot Wolf MT like a house afire at 50 and 100, they also shoot bulk fed AutoMatch very well.

A few weeks ago, I asked for help from the Campfire members to find a good Model 70 in 300 H&H. I advertised in the classified as a WTB. Well, I had a few offers from the members who owned 300 H&Hs, but didn't see anything that that really excited me. I had several members refer me to Perry County Fireams in Central PA, and I gave them a call. They actually had several to pick from and I chose a 1955 with a raised comb and in 95 to 97% condition. I also had a member offer a couple of boxes period W-W 180 gr Silvertip Ammo that I accepted. Thanks to all that contributed. Have a look. donsm70 That one makes my heart flutter, This new stuff just does not compare....Knock on wood, every pre 64 Ive owned has been easy sub moa with good factory ammo. very best my friend Folks there are just to many special guns in this topic to comment on, I dont know if I should buy flowers for the bride, go out back or call 911... I know in the last 20 hrs Ive spent 3 looking at great guns... very best

Winchesterpoor, nice herd. The target models remind me of a m70 pushfeed target I had in 06 and was stupid enough to sell when I was young and didn't know any better. That rifle shot lights out.
Thanks for sharing.

Ive had friends tell me the push feeds were easy to turn into 1000 yard guns. I have and had several classic sporters from mid 90's that shoot great, Im a fan of the supergrade classic boss guns. beautiful and shoot very nice.
