Got a birthday coming up in a few months- its the big one! Thinking of rewarding myself with something like a super nice 1911, a Swarovski scope or maybe an AR. I already have a 260 so thought perhaps a Grendel would be a nice compliment and share the same 120 nbt's Don't know jack aboout AR's so maybe I am off the mark. How controllable would fairly rapid shooting be wih a Grendel and are 120 nbt's even realistic- anything I need to know. Admittedly ignorant here looking for some tips\advice\opinions.....ridcule :-) .

The Grendal is a lightweight concerning recoil. More than a .223 but not much.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Give a man a welfare check, a forty ounce malt liquor, a crack pipe, an Obama phone, free health insurance. and some Air Jordan's and he votes Democrat for a lifetime.

Les Baer is a great choice. I wanted something a little lighter and put mine together using a Satern Machine barrel.

I like mine a lot. It is fun and accurate. Mine sports an 18" barrel and no muzzle brake/flash hider. I like it that way. I need to go shoot the thing as a matter of fact.

I think Terry's 'Blueprint' is one I saved...IIRC it's about JUST what the Dr. ordered....how I would/will do it. The AR never was much of an interest to me...until the 6.5 came out Bucket list. Also, 120s and 123 unless I wanted something to go 'Puff'

You can also with a .223 based round like the 6.5mm PCC . It's a little easier on the pocket vs. the Grendel (provided you reload) and uses all .223Rem/5.56 NATO components and magazines save for the barrel Itself. The Grendel is a good round, but they do need a dedicated bolt and magazine and brass/ammo can be quite pricey. Just a option for you...

6mm AR Turbo would be my pick. Just a Grendel necked to 6mm and fire formed. The Grendel lopes along a tad slow for my tastes

I was going to do that but decided it was too anemic. I am going to chamber mine 260AI. If that doesn't work, I will rechamber it to 6.5 Creedmoor. If I could just find the time to fire the lathe up...

The Grendel does not have enough case capacity to push a 6.5mm fast enough to make the high BC bullets work for you. Neck it to 6mm, and you can be a contender, or even a champion. Ask Carl Bernosky.

LBC and 6.8 shooters been killing deer and more further than MOST animals are taken...good bullet, shot placement - via range time.
I don't shoot extreme range, a 6.5 LBC does not start fast, but with good 120-130gr bullets, bc is fine for most shots for ME.
How far is Carl shooting?

High Power is shot at 200, 300, and 600. He's sponsored by Hornaday and uses a different bullet at each yard line. I suspect they are making his brass, as he is a busy guy and I doubt he formed all that brass from 30 Rem.
I'm not saying the Grendel is junk, all I'm saying is it akin to a V-6 Mustang, it could be so much more. 6.5's rock but I'll take a faster 6mm.

It's subjective, IIRC doing a comparison, a 6BR/105 and 6.5 LBC/Grendel w/123 are nigh identical in energy at 400 yds, for hunting both are deer capable to that distance...and prob beyond.
The above was using data for a 6BR which would be obtained in a 22-24" bbl or so. If you use a short carbine bbl, IMHO the 6.5 will burn more powder and edge out the 6mm, as to reaching the potential of either round.

Maybe I am minsinformed but I went down the road to a fellow that makes Grendel's and his rifles were HEAVY. So I wondered to myself what the point was. Might as well go 260 I thought.

It's all in the specs of parts which determine weight, IIRC TC1 - Terry has a rifle that is much lighter than your typical 260 or Creedmoor.

If I thought I could get a Grendel that was as light as your typical 5.56 carbine I would take a new look at the whole thing. I like Grendel ballistics very much, and a featherweight carbine with that punch would really be the ticket.

The Grendel is the same weight as the 5.56. Just don't stick a long heavy barrel on it.
