Yeah, I'll be interested to hear the outcome.

I'm surprised that since he's suing Sportsmans, he's not also suing the doctor for missing magnetic north by 35 degrees.

I hate to see a guy get hurt, but I'm short on patience with today's victim mentality and lack of personal responsibility. In short, stupid hurts, so deal with it.

I'll be interested to know the particular knife before I pass judgement. Some of those folders are a POS, and a missing finger waiting to happen. There's a reason why a lot of us use fixed blades up on the mountain..

I kicked up another thread that mentioned it was a Kershaw with a gut hook, and he was using the hook to cut the twine. I only found one folding model with a hook, and it looks like the user's fingers would be wrapped around the lockback release bar if holding the knife upside down.

I grew up with slip joints, and still treat lockbacks with the same respect. For me it's the same as never using/trusting the safety on a firearm.

He'll have to get past the fact that he picked it out, alleged design flaw and all.
In those conditions I don't think I'd use a folder anyway, but I reckon he knows what he wants.

Seems like the knife company will have an out since he was using the "gut"hook for something other than it's intended use. Wonder if the knife included directions?

I can see how this happened also. I'm curious if the owner's manual mentioned anything about poles?

I'm reluctant to say whether I think he has a case. When these things come up, I always think of the McDonalds customer who seemed unaware that hot cuppa coffee is hot.

We have a lotta talk about product liability, but little about consumer responsibility.

Steve.

People think there's a rigid class system here, but dukes have been known to marry chorus girls. Some have even married Americans.

Bullschit suit. But I can see exactly how it could of happened. Knife should be a of a liner lock design. Way to easy to disengage the lock when using the gut hook. Even in normal use the lock release seems to be positioned as such that it would be easy to unlock with a firm grip. Cannot see why the would but it midgrip at the top of the arch. Should be at the rear of the handle.

the design didn't cut him....

this kind of crap in the legal system is wholesale social stupidity, a burden to the taxpayer, providing income for parasitic hucksters in suits.

Who bought the knife and forced him to use it?

Oh yeah, he did. Blame rests entirely on his own head.
