OP Shod Campfire Regular S Joined: Jan 2012 Posts: 674	I've been looking at some of the painted stocks on the fire and have seen some really cool stuff. My question is.... I'm putting together a rifle with a solid black hogue rubber overmolded stock. What would my best route be to dress this stock up. Thanks for any advice. Shod

Done with a juice box straw dipped in a can of Rustoleum paint and flung onto the stock. The Chosin Few November to December 1950, Korea. I'm not one of the Chosin Few but no more remarkable group of Americans ever existed.

Sealed it all up with a few coats of Rustoleum clear matte spray paint. The clear blushed a bit around the pistol grip, likely due to the humidity but I didn't mind the effect at all so I just left it. The entire job was done in an afternoon. The Chosin Few November to December 1950, Korea. I'm not one of the Chosin Few but no more remarkable group of Americans ever existed.

Even if you can get it to stick and actually dry it will probably start peeling off or cracking very soon. Most people don't really want the truth. They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

It was actually a pic of your new 270 wsm that inspired me. I'm not into gaay so rest assured , that paint is cooooooool! Efw, is that antique stove paint? Nice looking gun. Hillbilly bear, That things gotta sting! If I can't come up with something what'd be a good stock to get that I can paint or is already done. Shod

IslandFirearmCoatings Campfire Member I Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 357 Kodiak	Unfortuantely the Hogue stocks won't take any kind of paint properly, no matter the prep, adhesion promoter, or amount of flex additive involved. They use silicone as a mold release that is nearly impossible to completely remove. If you want something custom you'll have to shop for something different. Wood, Fiberglass, Plastic, and other composites refinish quite well.

Stock was given to me and it had some surface imperfections.. the primer grey looked better with a stainless action and barrel than did the black... so what the heck... that was a year ago... so far no flaking...or cracking... I have done the rubberized grip panels on Remingtons, Sakos, and T/C's and they held up really good but I have heard some horror stories with the full on Hogues from other refinishers.
