How many here use one on their .22, especially your squirrel rifle? Looked at boyds gunstocks site, and amy thinking of getting one for my H&R Sportster. Plusses/minuses of the stocks? I've never shot any rifle with a thumhole stock before. They do look like they would help with steadiness in the squirrel woods.

I started squirrel hunting 45 years ago with a Rem 514 single shot. 10 to 15 years ago, bought the first Rem 581 Left Hand rifle I ever saw. It is a shooter. Two years ago, started pimping out a Ruger 10/22 with an ambidextrous laminated thumbhole stock, short bull barrel, etc.
The thumbhole Ruger shoots good. And, it's fun. But just sold it to the Son In Law. Going back to my LH 581. For me, the 581 with conventional stock just feels like a better small game rifle....

TH stocks are heavy and slow for offhand work. If you take a lot of slow, deliberate shots from a solid rest, they work fine. I don't like them on a hunting rifle at all.

I purchased a Savage Mark ii stainless with a laminate thumbhole stock. I have been working at the range off hand quite extensively. I don't find it to be be problematic and off hand, I think it helps to steady the gun. I will let you know how it does in the woods come fall, but so far, I do like it!

Not a squirrel rifle but my observation of a thumbhole is -they are the stuff for predator calling from aseated position and more so off of shooting sticks. Shooting off of a bench rest my hs precision grip is mighty rough on the back of my left hand that works the rear bag -of coarse that has nothing to do w/a 22lr squirrel rifle. And they have a litte more bulk than a traditional stock.
