Permethrin. I use a pump sprayer, mix it up, and start spraying around the house and move outward to the property line. They evidently sense the spray and start moving, so you drive them away.

First, you gotta get rid of anything that ticks feed on. Second, lay down the granules of any persuasion you prefer. Third, Spray the heck out of the foliage and the ground and the floors and the walls of your yard and outbuildings. Do it again in two weeks. Get a bunch of fire ants, they love ticks.

Good advice guys, ticks are the one thing that bothers me most about being outdoors. My girlfriend was diagnosed with Lyme this year. How do you protect yourselves against them?

If I find a tick then I spray with OFF (arms, boots, pants legs/cuffs) any time I'm going to be in the brush. We don't have them in the yard because of the method explained above. I don't bother with all the hocus pocus of how to get the damn things off once they're on. I either just pull them off or scrap them off with my knife blade. If you get into a bunch of seed ticks you're not going to be dobbing at them with a frickin cotton ball. Just take you knife and scrape them off. I don't know the % incidence of lyme in this area but I haven't heard of it with any regularity.

Not so sure I wouldn't rather have the ticks. smirk

Chickens will eat ticks and every other bug they find we have had them for years

Permethrin is easist to apply in my opinion, and you can spray the dog at the same time. You have to repeat in 7-10 days to get the eggs no matter what chemical you use.

When I raised cow/hog dogs, they all got a dose of Ivomec for CATTLE monthly at the rate of ONE cc per 100 lbs of body weight.I alternated between orally mixed with water, and injections in the loose skin between the shoulder blades. In addition to external parasites,it works against internal parasites-except common roundworms- as well.

It is the active ingredient in the heartworm medications that are advertised and MUCH cheaper.
