Hi All,
As happens with all of us from time to time... I've found another old rifle that I'm interested in acquiring... But with a daughter in grad school that doesn't leave me much in the way of cash reserves, I was looking at perhaps parting with one or two of my beloved Savage 1899 safe queens to fund the purchase. So thought I'd ask for input from the experts on this forum for values... or perhaps even entertain offers by way of PM.

1)1899B in .303 Sav (lower in pict) mint bore in 26 octagon bbl, Rocky Mtn german silver front sight with original issue rear leaf. Nice original ~90% rifle made 1910. Our local Cabelas had one similar to this listed at $1800 (yeah I know!) which sold last year, so not sure where to price it.

2)1899A Take-Down in .32-40 (upper in pict) Original .32-40 round bbl with mint bore shortened to 22(?). Barrel is very tight fitting. Previously modified Rocky Mtn german silver front sight with original issue rear leaf... or other sights available. It's currently wearing a Redfield receiver sight for target shooting very befitting of this cartridge. IIRC this one wears a 1912 SN. The Blue Book of course lists a premium for this rare caliber but this is also on a take-down action.

Looks like I need to fix the link above... grrrh!

Thanks for your input... Jeff

Anyone care to throw some ballpark numbers at me for the .32-40 t/d and a pretty minty 1899B in .303S?

What kind of premium does a take-down rifle usually bring - The Blue Book I have didn't address this.

Thinking I'll head over to the local Cabella's and talk with them as well.

The numbers all match on both rifles.

Thanks - Jeff

BTT ...both still available

1. $1250 + actual shipping & FFL transfer (includes Marbles tang peepsight + aperture disk as shown in picts)
1899B in .303 Sav Pros: mint bore in 26 oct bbl, Rocky Mtn german silver front sight with original issue rear leaf. Nice perch-belly stock with Schnabel forend. 90% rifle made 1910. NOT d/t receiver or wood! Our local Cabelas had one similar to this listed at $1800 which sold last year.
Cons: has small rust spot on the top rear of the receiver in front of the tang sight.

2. $1350 + actual shipping & FFL transfer (includes original modified german silver front sight, original rear leaf sight)
1899A Take-Down in .32-40 Pros: Original .32-40 round bbl with mint bore shortened to 22(?) and recrowned. Barrel is very tight fitting. Previously modified Rocky Mtn german silver front sight with original issue rear leaf. Other sights available currently wearing a Redfield receiver sight for target shooting befitting of this cartridge. Made 1912. NOT d/t receiver or wood! The Blue Book of course lists a premium for this rare caliber but this is also on a take-down action. Cons: has a fill? on the left cheek where there was a scratch?

First "I'll take it" - takes the rifle...

I'm amazed these two 1899's are still available... the pict doesn't do either one justice. The 1899B in .303 is the nicest one in my collection with a mint bore in that octagon barrel...

I think your shooting a bit to high for sure on the 32-40, sure it's a rare caliber for the 1899 but with the barrel shortened it's not gonna draw that much cash.

Everybody else was thinking it, I'm always the guy that says it.... wink

Is Mr John Callahan still lettering Savage 1899's? I see his contact information in the sticky... but it looks a bit dated, so just thought I should ask?

I still have both of these 1899's so was thinking about getting the .32-40 lettered. wink

1899B in .303 Sav is still available. The 1899A T/D in .32-40 is now sold... took it along with me to a gunshow today.
