I have a clear and loud opinion on that smile

And I think those who once made that rifle would agree.

I really didn't know if I wanted to post this one or not it doesn't match up to all these nice pre-64s on here.

The 'bastid' Model 70. Circa 2001, pushfeed, New Haven, 7mm RM. I call it 'Thumper' or 'Black Death'.

Notice the Bubba Budy for added 'bastid' effect. grin

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

I picked up another Pre'64 Model 70 a couple weeks ago so I thought it was time for a photo op.
Top to bottom.
1960 action, 24" Shilen in 308 Norma. McMillan Supergrade stock, 3.5-10X Leupy.
1958 Fwt in 243 with 2.5-8X Leupy, stock refinished.
1959 Fwt in 30-06 with 2.5-8X Leupy
1951 270 with old custom stock(Fajen?)& 2.5-8 B&L in adjustable mount.
Recently acquired 1952 beater in 30-06, this was a 270 with a bulged barrel in which I installed a '46 barrel in 30-06.
Can't find anything else that "feels" like a Pre'64 M70....
Looking for more...

Found a sweet deal on a Win 70 Stainless Ultimate Shadow (claw extractor/bottom metal/classic trigger/odd but light stock)in 7mm WSM for $475.
Not sure how I'm going to outfit her yet or what loads to start working up, but I've got a few more months

Ok, I need to show off my new to me Pre 64 model 70. 375 H&H. Just put on the leupold VX3 1.5-5x20 in the steel Leupold bases and rings the other day. It's my dream rifle grin:

Here's a '55 Super Grade 30/06 National Match which I recently took to WY. It's wearing a Leupold 2.5-8x36 with Talley lows.

When you say it's a Super Grade National Match what do you mean? Does the front sight ramp have a groove for a sight hood? Do you have any kind of documentation showing that it left the factory that way or that it isn't a National Match in a SG stock? Regardles it's a beautiful rifle and if it's factory I give you credit for actually taking a rifle like that out in the field.

Thanks, BSA. The scope is a good fit for it, I think. Just right.

Reelman, we had a good conversation about the rifle back in April: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...44956/28/Let_s_see_your_winchester_mode.

It was a pleasure taking it out in the field! smile

Eric the rifle is a jewel of course, but can we get rid of that gawd-forsaken blue tape and at least get some black electrician tape instead? grin

It looks like a Brazilian Super model with a pair of combat boots on her feet.... cry sick smile

Thanks, Reelman! Bob, I love your analogy. I'm with BSA. If she's a Brazilian Super model I don't care what she's wearing on her feet! whistle grin
