Anybody know of a site that has good instruction with pictures about how to wrap a leather thong around a lever action lever? I'm sure it's pretty simple but I never took arts and crafts at summer camp and would not have been too good even if I had.

Keep in mind that leather has tannic acid in it. Hard on metal.

Dude, you basically just said you want to wrap a black leather thong around the lever of your rifle. Dude...

vegetable tanned leather is best, less corrosive than chrome tanned, paracord is another option

I understand the desire to use leather as it just kinda goes with a lever gun.
However, a material that's not corrosive and is much more comfortable is 550 cord (or paracord). I used it on mine, but took it off after I found with my heavy gloves that it made the lever too tight inside. When I switch to the big loop, I'll wrap it again.
If you really want to wrap your lever, try 550 cord. Comes in some cool colors that should "match" your set-up.

Thanks to all for the instructions and tips about how leather can react with the metal. I looked for 550 cord today but only found some huge 1000' spools in green for $54 or $109 (no thanks!) or 100' of bright yellow for $11. I've had an old pair of brown and yellow nylon bootlaces on the shelf since forever so I used one of them. It came out okay for my first try, I like the color combo. It got kind of wonky coming around the curve, and I can see how a flat leather strip would lay nicer and be a bit easier to work with, but this'll do just fine. It only takes a couple of minutes to wrap so if it comes loose or I come across something I like better it's an easy job to replace it. P.S. EthanEdwards - it's not a leopard print thong but do I get points for kind of a tiger stripe effect?
