I chose the 7mm Remington Magnum in a Remington 700 BDL that was made in 1989, in the Aralon Synthetic stock. Bought it from a BIG 5 store and have never regretted the purchase. YEARS of reading internet caliber wars...I'm ultimately satisfied with my choice. .243 to .300 Magmum. I seem to have found a really good cartridge / rifle combination that covers all kinds of hunting for North America. I just wanted to start a thread that gives credit to a fantastic 'do-it-all' cartridge. Very hard to fault this one in the Lower 48. Tell us if you've found 'satisfaction' with the 7mm Rem.Mag.

I found satisfaction with it's little brother, a late 60s vintage BDL in 270 44 years ago. It's killed everything I've asked it to. 7mm Mag is an awesome caliber.

It don't get much better.... Yeah it just stands in the SHADOW of the fantabulous 300 Win Mag. Actually, I have more than 1 7RM. I do appreciate what it accomplishes, in modest ways it really out performs its size. I really feel it kills out of proportion to its size both caliber and case capacity wise. There AREN'T many and maybe no cartridges that'll out perform the 7Mag without a noticeable amount more powder & recoil. A fellow could do a lot worse using only 1 rifle/cartridge than a 7 Mag.

Had one for unite awhile and shot lots of big game with it. Discovered there was nothing magic about it. It's in the 270/30-06 class which is very good company. My 280AI stands right up with it and my 7mm WSM.
They all work extremely well on all types of big game. Now I'm just as interested in the variety of rifles, cartridges, and loads. Those may be slightly different, but the results in the field are the same, as long as I do my part.

Here is why I like it:
Plenty of gun for anything up to and including Moose
Lots of bullets to choose from
Short enough to seat bullets out to reach the lands without running out of magazine space.
Shoots plenty flat and reaches plenty far
It looks cool

i have a gun rag (quite a few years old) which contains an article entitled, "the three kings - 270win, 30-06, and 7mmremmag". any of the three will do the job, not only in north america, but elsehwere. no flys on the 7mmremmag.

I've had at least one in my gunsafe for nearly forty years. This fall, the Big Seven will go on three hunts:
Tule Elk in California with the Barnes 140 TTSX. Draw tag, Wyoming Shiras moose in the Bighorns with the 175 NPT. Saskatchewan whitetail with the 140 Barnes (or maybe the 140 NPT).
If I don't score, it won't be the gun's fault.
I was hoarding when hoarding wasn't cool.

I agree, It's a great cartridge and extremely capable. I'm new to shooting the 7mm rem mag but really like what I've seen so far.....
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

It's been my favorite since I could first shoot "big guns". I only wish the loading manuals would stop strangling the data down to 280 Rem velocities. I guess I didn't hear about all these rifles blowing up with the old data.....Let er eat!

I like the 7RM too and use one often. If however you want to stay happy with the typical factory rifle and factory ammo, do not chronograph it. I have gotten some very low readings, prompting me to agree with those who say they can see no difference between it and the .270Win., because there literally couldn't be any. But, a savvy handloader can make one really shine. I know many on the fire will disagree, but I think the big 7 begs for a 26" barrel to do its best.

The new manuals are always listing 60 to 80% load density which really irritates me....I remember crunching powder in my 300 wby and short necked 300 winny....even do that with my 06 with some loads......seems something went awry there some how.......

My 7mm Remington magnum is a weird bird and rather unique. Its a 700CDL fitted in a 700LSS stock. I think unique because the 700LSS was always fitted with a stainless steel barrelled action - mine is CM.
