So I have a female Husky/Chow mix who mated with a full-blooded Chocolate Lab next door. She had two males - one was given to friends, and I decided to keep the other one. He is 3 months old in this picture and already as big as his mother. I'm hoping the Lab characteristics will be as prominent as they are in his appearance, since I plan to try to train him as a gun dog. I'm back in Afghanistan, so my wife is researching training methods and helping my son get started on his training. Any advice from experienced trainers is welcome, as this will be my first hunting dog. Here he is:

A good book I can recommend is The Labrador Shooting Dog by Mike Gould.

I would contact Joan Bailey and get her book "How to help gun dogs train themselves"

Great read about early conditioning and raising a pup.
